Do any of you have a 3-4" "tactical" or "assisted opening" folder which is by far your #1 favorite choice in this category, AND IF so, could you tell us what it is that you like about it which sets it apart from the competition
(Please keep this in the under $250.00 price range).

Thanks very much in advance for the input.

My "tactical" knife is also my EDC knife. It is a David Boye dendritic cobalt folder with marlinspike. I outfitted it with a "poor man's wave" so that it opens as I pull it out of my pocket. The marlinspike makes an excellent kerambit tool- pointy but no blade. It follows the rule that the best tactical knife is the one on you. Another plus is it looks unthreatening- light blue handle and utility shape.

A bigger knife is the CRKT Crawford Casper- Great retention in the hand, great for utility work too, and cheap. Smallest of the tactical folders I own is a Spyderco Native with G-10 and abalone handles- similar reasons as the Casper but lighter in the pocket and flatter.

Hope this helps

My top "tactical" knife is my SNG!! My favotite assisted opening is my Kershaw/Ken Onion Bump. But what I currently have in my pocket is my Buck/Mayo TNT, and has been my EDC; I LOVE it!!

Probably the military/paramilitary. But there are also the usual suspects...the m16s and minigrips/griptilians

Not overtly tactical but I'll go ahead and be the first to say Large Sebenza. As much as I like my 806D2, the sebbie is my favorite.

After nearly two years of EDC (and heavy use) I still love my CRKT M16-14SF.

I'm a Spyderco fanatic who is willing to admit that the BM 710 is easily the best knife ever.

The Spyderco Military used to be my favorite, until I had two lock failures in a row. I now favor the Manix or Chinook II.

Oops, sorry, missed the price limit.

Benchmade 806D2 all the way then!

BM 710HS, BM 520 Presidio.

Why? Both fit my hand perfectly, both have great lock and blade shape.

710HS - also because of steel, M2 takes very fine edge and holds it really long time. Wish to see a Presidio in M2.

Manix without question....

...of course, my opinion should be taken with a grain of salt as it is currently the only tactical knife in that size range I own and I have had it for a whopping 2 days... :D

Actually, I do own a griptilian 551. Not bad at all, but the Manix will will eat it if I put them in the same fish tank...

722 Benchmade is perfect for me. I like the 710 but I find it to big in my pocket.

Spyderco Keating Chinook II, without a doubt!

Why?

S30V blade-steel
Dual skeletonized steel liners
G-10 scales
Trustworthy and reliable lock-back design
Truley ambidexterous and tip-up or tip-down carry
Extremely comfortable and secure grip
Wickedly effective blade design
Very strong tip and very strong blade
Large thumb-hole for easy opening

For that price range, for me it's the SOG Vision (Titanium Version).

Reasons:
1 - The Arc lock - just won't fail.
I am the worlds worst for having dirt/ lint/ Copenahagen..(yeah I know) or various grits in my pockets from wood working etc, and it just doesn't seem to get in the way of this lock, or at least has not so far.

2 - Built like a tank - I have literally driven nails with it. Sainless Liners/ Titaninum scales.

3 - ATS -34 Tanto blade

4 - It is soooo buttery smooth on the open close.

5 - 1 hand open close - even when I adjusted to where I could hold down the lock button to flick it closed, there is absolutely NO blade play left / right or otherwise.

6, Feels great in vertually whatever grip position I choose.

To be honest, this was the first killer production knife that I had. It was a gift from my Dad, and once I handled it - that's when I started digging in to find other quality manufacturers.

Actually, and this is the kicker, if I could figure out a way to round the blade spine without fearing I would totally screw it up, it would rival my Seb - for haf the cost - and that should say it all about how great a knife it is.

Don't want to sound like a commercial, but it is absolutely the finest folder SOG has ever made. I've had a bunch of them , and in my opinion none of their other flders compare to the quality, toughness, and usability (is that a word?) in the Vision.

Barrabas,

It sounds awesome!

Just curious, does SOG make the Vision with a fully plain-edge blade or only the combo-edge?

Allen.
