Your top #1 favorite 3-4" tactical folder?

I like the Spyderco Chinook I. It's a very strong knife with a heavy thunking lockback and solid construction. Lock failure would take hundreds of pounds of pressure so it feels safe when in use. The Chinook II is similar, but doesn't have the same 'character' to me, anyway.

From Benchmade I like the 705 and the larger 805. Once again they have G10 scales for grip and a strong construction with Axis locks. I rate these too, but not quite as highly as the Chinook. If you were concerned about weight and ease of carry, however, I'd pick the 705 out of the three.

If you could find one second hand, to meet your budget, the Sebenza is a good carry. But there are so many good knives it's sometimes hard to focus   :D

Mark :)

Chinook II. Real easy to open, and cuts good to. It feels good in the hand, also.

I'd like to throw in two recent loves of mine, the Spec Bump and Mini Skirmish

What is your opinion of the full size Skirmish? A bit big for in the pocket carry?

It would have to be the swamp rat, rat trap. Ive been carrying one for about 6 months now. Great edc, even replaced my kershaw avalanche I was carrying for over three years, and my camillus dominator I was carrying for over a year.

Its a winner! The "one" knife (that says allot!!) ;)

I haven't actually used the normal Skirmish, but eyeing it, it was just way too big for me to EDC. And I imagine it'd be a scary knife too. I pretty much ruled it out when I saw the blade was longer than four inches, as that's illegal to carry here in Texas (I think).

The mini skirmish really impressed me with how much blade you were getting from that little handle and how well that little handle actually gripped. Plus, that's the best lockup I've ever seen on a framelock.

Depending on whether I'm wearing jeans or slacks, the BM 630 Skirmish or my Crawford Kasper fighting folder. Both have Spyderholes, they open fast and are very well made. The Skirmish is better suited to harder tasks, but I think the KFF would be better in a fight, even though it's smaller. The edge and point are more acute.

My recently procured Kershaw G10 Hawk. More grippy than my expensive customs, double liners, ATS-34 stainless, solid opening, smooth opening, blade just looks at something and it's cut ;) stays in the pocket, a little longer than my Delica and a little shorter than an Endura. I wish they made a fixed version as well.

I basically made my own 'assisted opener' in that I put a Wave/Rave mod on my BenchMade 420 Resistor. It is the fastest smoothest opening folding knife I have ever owned. Great spear point blade after I reshaped it from the factory shape and the lock is strong and reliable as well as easy to manipulate. I love the knife and carry it quite a bit these days. Even without my mod it is a cinch to flick it open by holding back the lock and flicking the wrist.

You can see it here in the thumbnail and/or this link http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=359757.

It is one of my favorite carry knives after putting my Rave mod on it. Wave + Rice (my last name) = Rave

I like the sebenza alot for a tatical folder. The almar sere is problally the best folder out there.

Right now, it has tobe my Buck/Mayo TNT. Why, I love the fact that I can open either left or right handed. That is a big deal to me! I also relly like my Fallkniven U2, a very handy little blade. Not very tactical though. In keeping with the price range. Another great love of mine, in the assisted opening knives, has to be my Kershaw/KO green Bump. This is MY favorite of all my Kershaw/KO's!!!
