Your TOUGHEST knife under $100...

as for the manix 2, i gave one to my good friend as a gift, and he has been carrying it all the time for the past few years. he is not a knife guy, so he has used the knife for all kinds of different things. when i saw the knife again just recently, there were so many scratches all over the knife and a few small chips here and there, it was very well used. but what surprised me most was that it was still extremely sharp! it had never been sharpened once after constant use for a couple years and possibly misuse and could still slice paper no problem. i actually had a pic of his manix that i wanted to post but i accidentally deleted it, ill get it next time and show you guys.[/QUOTE]

That's awesome man, I love hearing stories like that about knives. Lol. Look forward to seeing that one!

from personal experience i would have to say the basic spyderco endura and the manix 2 are really tough knives. a few years back i bought a couple enduras and one of them was a lemon that had a lot of blade play right from the factory. so i said ok, im just going to carry this one with me at my job in construction and im just going to beat the hell out of it. i was surprised how tough the blade was, i even tried to make the lock fail just to see how much it could take and it held up fine.

Yup, I've been surprised by the Enduras I've had as well. Even the linerless Pacific Salt has been a great do anything knife (so long as you use either for actual knife tasks).

The Zome coloration is particularly neat. Pics for the OP:

First of all, I thought a forum about knives would have more men in it.

Well we don't discriminate- male or female are welcome. And a lot of people here seem to really like tiny knives.

Personally, I don't have much opportunity to beat on a knife. But I have a Manix 2 with M4 steel that I consider a real tool when I need to cut tougher stuff. Around my house I sometimes cut wire with it but mostly use it to carve wood or PVC when I'm working on the house.

My other tough knife is a Cold Steel G.I. Tanto. Back when the hockey-mask guys were still on youtube they did a test of this knife and it just about beat them. I bought one and put it in my rescue bag at work. One time checking out a construction project I took it along to cut into walls looking for structural components. The reason I had it at work was because I worked 15 floors up in a building and I figured if there was a disaster and I had to get out I coudl use the knife to cut through walls. I recall stories about the World Trade Center where stairway doors were jammed and people had trouble getting out. Well in some buildings you can just cut through the wall next to the door.

The ka-bar jarosz is a heavy duty folder that so far I'm very pleased with! For 35 or so bucks extremely hard to beat!

Probably my Razelized Cold Steel Ti Lite VI

I use it like a chisel and trim sharp raggedy edges off of steel structures with it.

That or maybe my Buck 110 but the Buck has hardly been used and babied. Carried a whole lot though back in the day.
Man . . . I just picked it up and looked at it, open, . . . it sure has a lot of junk in the trunk ! I . . . for some reason . . . never noticed how tail end heavy it is from all that brass ! Back then I didn't have anything to compare it to . . . now it just seems terribly unbalanced. Solid though . . . VERY SOLID.

Every single Cold Steel folder would literally poop on others for strength to be very honest.
Mine is the Cold Steel Voyager XL. Thrown and chopped with. 0 play and never adjusted.

I've got several folders that are tougher than I'll ever need, but the one that gets the roughest treatment is my Wenger SI. I've had it for ages and it still works just fine, with a few scars.

7 years old Cold Steel Recon 1. One of the first CS model that has no liners. It's been abused, batoned, thrown on concrete floor repeatedly, ran over by car, stabbed into ground and everything in between.
Still alive and kicking, and the lockup is still the same as the day i got it, only with a small amount of up and down blade play.
This is the aus8a model, i got it for about $60. The new CTS XHP model is about $83 new.

Hear! Hear! I got the Recon 1 tango in XHP. Got it lightly used for $40!on the exchange.

Tough as nails

surprised theres up and down play after 7 years on the cold steel recon, I was a about to buy one. This is why I like a frame lock, it will adjust for wear over time. as far as a strong folder under 100, I would say keep the blade profile thin and the edge sharp. Then you don't have to put stress on the knife when cutting....and use it as a knife.

You read what happened to the knife in that 7 years right? Sorry i don't sit in front of the computer flipping my knife and cutting envelops all day. Im sure you will have more than up and down play if you baton it through logs multiple times with a frame lock, if you still have a knife at all. Up and down play is only present when i grip it hard probably because the lockbar got depressed in the process.

The point is, after all that it's still alive and working well, other than the ugly dings on the G-10 and flattened pocket clip from getting crushed by the car. Oh and it can still cut i promise you, like other knives. It's been to more than 20 states with me over the years, not many knives(including many in my collections) get to see this kind of use.

Any knife can cut, but if you are looking for something that can take much more beating, great steel, easily replaceable for way less than $100, Recon 1 is hard to beat.

BTW, im not sure what's with the butthurt with how my knife is being beaten. I'm simply showing what the OP is asking for. Here is the quote from the OP, in case anyone forgot:

By toughest I mean the one folding knife of all that you own (under $100), that you've beaten the hell out of and is still considered a strong knife.

Pictures of it would be great too! But not a requirement

EDIT: by "beat" I just mean one that's been used a whole lot with a combination of easy and tougher tasks.

I just do not see the point of batoning with a folder unless you are in an emergency survival situation and thats all you have. Im smart enough not to put myself in rambo situation regularly. When I go camping though....I bring a hatchet or fixed blade for this. My xm has cut a lot of newspaper and has held up....highly recomended
