Your trad EDC & your clothes

Another clothes/wallet/trad knife tidbit. I used to wear Docker's khaki slacks, with my leather wallet carried in my left rear pocket, and a Case Small Texas Jack carried vertically beside the wallet. It was an ideal carry arrangement, but for one thing. The squared-off bolsters of the Case Tx Jack ended up wearing holes through the pants (the pockets themselves were intact, it was the outer material). I sit at a desk most of the time so the back-pocket is not the ideal place for the knife, I guess.

That was back when I carried a phone in my right front pocket. I have since evicted the phone to a belt-mounted clip holster freeing up the front right pocket so daily carry knife goes there instead.

I found out how happy I was with Wrangler carpenter jeans about 6 months ago when Target had them on sale for $11. I should have bought more. The large watch pocket, 2 side pockets and the overall fit for the price is amazing.
I carry too many knives in all those pockets but I carry them comfortably.

You need to sneak out and get a couple more pairs in your new size!

Wouldn't be caught dead in "skinny jeans", my go to's are Carhartt, Duluth, and if I gotta be a "little" dressier, Vertx in khaki. The Duluths seem to have the largest watch-pockets by a long shot, Vertx have nice low key cargo cargo pockets, and a sneaky zippered pocket in a pocket RFP. All have the mandatory side of the leg pocket for my cellphone.

Yah, I wear the rip-stop Carhartt's too, shorts and pants , when the wife would like me looking more like the trophy, ahem, that I am. But(t) I also wear the jeans made by Wrangler, and sold under the Riggs name. They are way comfy, have a side pocket(gotta have at least one if I'm not wearing cargos), deep watch-pocket, and I carry a LT Wright fixed on a dangler in rfp that's 8 2/3"(?) long, not including sheath, pretty much totally concealed. And they all have gussets. I just won't wear pants without one anymore, too uncomfortable. They have a variety of styles you might check out. Also TAD sells some sweet pants, but brother! the cost of them! You'd think they were sewn with gold thread. You know most of the mountain climbing clothing, Patagonia etc., have pants for men with gusseted crotches, cause it was originally a climbing necessity. Like when ya gotta get your foot above your waist. Not that I ever climbed, but that's why. Good luck, and glad you got that under control man.
Thanks, Neal

Thanks for the replies. The suggestions & info is great.

I'm almost three years since my diagnosis of type 2. I thought I was going to turn into a green bean for the first six months as that is mostly what I ate. I have found some Wrangler cargo pants and shorts which have a "technology" pocket integral with the left side cargo pocket. I carry, in a slip, and with a lanyard/fob various 74 patterns or 72 pattern GEC's in that pocket and they fit well. A somewhat larger knife would work also. The fob obviously helps me to get the knife out when needed. They don't have a watch pocket but the regular front pockets are pretty deep and full. I do carry various knives, a '73 single, 2-blade '15, '48 trapper and others in the right front as my primary carry.
Good luck with the diabetes, and take care of yourself,
Rick

I have several pairs of Levi's carpenter jeans (I don't know the number) that the pockets are crazy big. They have watch pockets on both sides and they're as big as the regular pockets. Very comfortable and room for anything I want to carry. My wife hates them and I don't care. I'm going to be comfortable. :D

Let's keep some knives in the discussion guys. Thanks.

I found out about front pocket wallets a number of years ago and would never go back. I carry a front pocket wallet and a 3" to 4 1/2" trad knife sitting vertically in my RFP. Works great for me.

I've also found some pretty neat cargo pants from Dockers that have a zippered leg pocket. This combo fits in it nicely so I'm trying that out.

Call me weird...I carry a front pocket wallet in my rear pocket :D
I tend to use slim jeans lately, switched from 501 to 511 Levi's and I like them alot. Not much room in my pockets but honestly I prefer to go around light. While folding wallets feel uncomfortable, slim front pocket ones (with just notes and a few cards, no coins) make almost no bulk, so I can sit comfortably...and carry my knife in my (left) front pocket.
I'm travelling and away from home now, but things work out just the same.
A Bantam and Pioneer X for a whole month, and my "travel wallet" (the "resident" one is very similar though):

Depends on the clothes really. When I wear jeans or cargo pants I can carry any knife so want comfortably. Slacks or suit pants are another thing entire. On those occasions I carry something slim, small, and pretty.

I've recently discovered Texas Jeans USA; I bought their original fit Cowboy Jean and love the watch pocket for up to a 3-1/2" knife (like this Case 6318 that I EDC much of the time). I've worn the Wrangler Pro Rodeo for the last 25 or so years but don't like the watch pocket as the opening lies under the belt and it's hard to get the knife out easily. I tried a few pair of Carhartt and like them, but the watch pocket is small - limits you to a Peanut or Small Coke Bottle (as in the bottom picture). OH

Glad you are on the right track Vince!
When I am at work I wear dress pants, but I purposely select ones with the inner coin pocket to hold my knife. This is a requirement for me when I am pants shopping, and drives my wife crazy!
On the weekend, I usually carry two knives- a small watch pocket knife and a larger modern knife.

Oh-yer getting the wrong Carhartts. Some have a huge watch pocket-enough to carry my favorite Queen #49H at 4.25" horizontal in them. Couldn't tell you the pants no. , but ya need to go where they carry the full selection.
Thanks, Neal

Yeah, I don't know why Wrangler does that. I have written to them about it. If you notice, they changed the location of the watch pocket on their 31MWZ and 47 series jeans that are very similar to the Cowboy Cuts. So it looks like they realized their mistake. Also on their cheaper jeans, the watch pocket is completely usable--in a lower location. But they will not change the watch pocket on the 13 MWZ jeans.

Roundhouse Overalls. Love them. Comfortable, stylish, drives the women crazy, well made denim with two little pockets on the main bib pocket for knives (or a carpenter's pencil). So, on the front bib, two knives in thier own pocket, phone, protac 2aa flashlight, note pad and a couple of pens. You can also easily carry a Mora with the bandana in the right rear pocket..... or in the little carpenters pocket (I guess for a utility knife).

One thing I like about where I work, I get to wear overalls!

Jeans are Buddy's and they have a decent watch pocket.

I have an anatomical condition, inherited from my father's side of the family, known as gluteus humongous. [emoji1] I could no more get into a pair of 501s than a walrus could fit into a dryer vent. Even most "relaxed fit" pants are too short in the rise for me. I tend to wear a lot of Carhartt dungarees, and those fit me well. For work I go with Lands End khakis, which are available in long rise.

I switched to the front pocket wallet a couple months ago on recommendation of the chiropractor. Makes sense when you think about it.

Lately my knife tends to ride vertical at the outside of my left rear pocket, sheathed in one of Horsewright's buckaroo pouches. Comes out in a flash when I need it, much faster than my traditional pocket slips.

Yeah I moved away from back pocket wallet carry several years ago and have never looked back. It has worked out as now I am able to keep a slip joint upright in my front pocket. At home I normally wear Levi 569s which have a pretty average sized coin pocket. I can get my conductor in there just fine.

At work I wear Carhartt scrubs mainly because they have humongous coin pockets.

I wear a suit daily. I had these in my pockets today. Though, I put them in the drawer when I get here.

I stopped carrying a water in my back pocket years and years ago. First time my back when our while driving..... I nearly killed the whole car full! Luckily the passenger grabbed when wheel and steered us through the busy intersection while I was on other wise occupied.....

Wrangler Riggs Contractor jeans. Big pockets (especially the watch pocket) and the inside of the back pockets are lined with corduroy. There's a leather patch sewn onto the right front pocket so you can clip a tape measure there without eventually tearing up the denim. Good jeans and very comfortable. They have several styles including Carpenter jeans if that's your thing.

Oh and by the way, I always have a loaded Starbucks card in my wallet.

We wore 5:11s for duty pants. Green for training day & black for duty, and along the way, I've picked up a couple in gray & desert tan. That's what I've been wearing every day for a bunch of years. I've been retired for three years & I doubt I'll ever be able to wear them all out. Nobody's ever come up to me & asked for fashion advice, but hell, I figure if I have to dress up to go somewhere, then I don't belong there in the first place.
