your worst\best knife experience

Best: Discovering Busse knives.

Worst: Credit card bills for Busse knives.

If you don't count the knives I had as a kid, I haven't had any worst knife experiences so far. I do some research before I buy, and all of the knives I bought are the quality I expected them to be (or better).

Best: ontario RAT1. Even though I don't like the company, that is a quality knife (as I've probably said a couple of dozen times before).

Worst: If I have to name one, just a cheap knife I bought on Dealextreme. It was a little better than I expected, though (meaning: it didn't break at first impact). I bought it to mess around with it.

Best: Finding Moras. Sharp, handy, cheap and I get to deal with Ragnar.

Worst: Gerber LMF. Want to like it, just cannot...must be made of pot metal.

Hope: Fixing to buy a couple of ESEE RCs.

Not THE best or worst, but still memorable...

Worst (sorta):
Wife asks me if I'm some kind of "psycho" because of my "obsession" with knives. She says I'm starting to scare her.

Best (sorta):
A couple weeks later, my wife asks if I could cut off the tags on her new Nikes so she could wear them.

Best - when I buy for myself

Worst - Every Christmas my Mother-in-law sends me another knife made out of recycled soup cans from Pakistan.

"Oh he likes knives"... Yeah Mom, I can bend this one into an L shape and cut around corners!

Explain "experience". Do you mean customer relations with a company? Use of a knife? Injury from a knife?

Everyday experience:

Worst: Almost chopping through my lower leg with a knife I had just sharpened.

Best: Having my fiance tell me she needs a knife and wants to pick one out of my collection to carry (she at first thought I was crazy for having knives....I converted her and now she NEEEDS one to cut her meat at restaurants after I showed her a sharp knife doesnt press out the juices like the dull ass ones they give you do).

BEST = Finding out that my wife is so cool that she bought me a new Falkniven thor bowie knife as a birthday gift! :D SWEET!!! Then finding out how easy it was to bring out a truely scary, hair popping edge on this knife with just a bit of sandpaper and strop action! Fully convexed VG-10 is swell!

WORST = ....Dropping this same freshly sharpened knife on my ankle ...fully severing my achilles tendon! ...One week before our first child was born no less! The wife was NOT happy!!!:o

Damn that's nasty.
My worst was 5 stitches on my thumb after admiring my new Needs Work.

I haven't had any bad experiences with other people looking down on my knives so I guess the worst would be cutting myself. Only 2 times I can think of is when I had a case lockback fail and close on my index finger. Luckily my fingernail stopped it for the most part and the cut wasn't as bad as it could have been. Other time was standing up real quick when I was cutting some things and the knife was in my lap which then fell and split all the skin on top of my foot open.

I have also contacted a few companies asking about problems with a knife and did not get very helpful replies. And one knife I was sold was much more used than advertised. I later found out he had good pictures from when he bought it but decided to send me the ones that didn't show the wear and damage.

Good: I found my perfect knife and don't really feel the need to try out new knives. I will probably still buy sprint runs with high end steel if I like the model but don't feel like I have to try everything anymore.

I also had an experience in a grocery store where I was cutting up a piece of fruit with a 3.5" black blade tactical folder and saw a woman watching me and start walking over. I thought I was going to get an ear full but instead she just wanted to know if the fruit was good. I offered her a piece and she asked me to core it for her so I used the big scary knife I was still holding to prep the fruit. We both ended up buying a big bag of pears.

That is all I can think of at the moment.

Worst: carving, opened my left palm up wide. no hand for a month:grumpy:

Best: finding a Randall made knife in a lake, i kid you not. found it snorkling.

Best: unboxing my first Gold Class Benchmade. Lot's of nice looking stuff.
Worst: First mistake with my BM 42

The worst: pared my finger down to the bone with my very first knife, an SAK.

The best: I'm very young so I'm sure the best is still to come. As of now, just using 'em hard and having fun.

Best: Finding Blade forums and realizing I'm not crazy..well at least not alone in my hobby.:D:D

Worst: Seeing BRYFRY's ankle, #$!*

What do you consider sharp..hair popping, pushing paper, cutting a silk scarf...uhh no..severing your Achilles tendon sharp.:eek::eek:

Best, went to Cabela's expecting to talk to a clueless knife counter guy, turns out he knew about as much as me. Had a good 10 minute talk, was just like being on BF but was in real life face to face. Truly awesome experience and was the first time I talked to another knifenut in real life.

Worst, my dads business had a bunch of Leeks engraved with the company logo for a group of customers at a "thank you for your business" meeting/dinner, not 5 minutes in a bunch of thumbs were sliced wide open...
