your worst\best knife experience

Can't pick best and worst. I'll go for good and bad.

Good: Loaned a knife to a friend who is familiar with tool usage. He was impressed with the sharpness of my knife.

Bad: I don't remember any.

best: getting my first sebenza

worst: not being able to carry a big knife where i live :grumpy: a spyderco millie would be a dream to EDC.

Best: finding bladeforums, and using it to expand my knife knowledge and collection
Worst: buying alot of chinese knives, that were very good quality for the price IMO, instead of just buying a few expensive ones that would last forever. Would have saved ALOT of money and had some really nice higher end blades

Oh and BryFry...dude I think you may have won the "worst knife accident" contest, or atleast runner up behind the guy who chopped off a limb

Worst: Seeing BRYFRY's ankle, #$!*

What do you consider sharp..hair popping, pushing paper, cutting a silk scarf...uhh no..severing your Achilles tendon sharp.:eek::eek:

Haha, and the best part was that I didn't even feel it! I didn't know anything was wrong untill I tried to take a step, and it felt like the floor was caving in under my foot!

You've got me interested.. is there a link about this guy who cut off his limb

At least you didn't snap it, some guys say its very painful whilst one person I know felt no pain when it happened. Oh and the cool noise it apparently makes :D

I lucked out, the tendon started to pull away, but didn't retract very far. The surgeon said there was just a tiny bit of surrounding tissue on one side that helped to hold it in place.

-Oh and while in the ER I had a LOT of hospital workers who had to come in and look at my wound, ....and they were all quite impressed with the apparent sharpness of the blade that did the damage, including the surgeon! :D

Best - Buying a BM 42, they are absolutely indestructible, I <3 Titanium

Worst - Buying a KaBar and discovering that KaBar's edges Suck! (buy ESEE)
Maybe your next "best" can be learning how to sharpen...? ;)
Gotta say that one of my best knife moments was the same as yours, getting a BM42AS when they first came out. One of my worst knife moments came when it was confiscated 5 years later. :(

I just joined this site a few days ago... way long overdue. It's incredible the community you guys have on here, so I'd say thats a recent best.

Best- About 3 years ago getting my Eagle Scout award from the BSA and having my father get me my first BM (and first high end knife, besides a few victorinox slip joint knives and a few very old customs my grandfather/uncle have given me), a laser etched (Says "Eagle '08") Osbourne 940, for EDC. Still carry it today

Honorable mention best- After getting me a BM mini grip last year and an BM LFK the year before, my girlfriend getting me a Microtech Ultratech for my birthday this past january. probably the coolest girl in the world.

Worst- losing the BM mini grip while at the bar last spring, I had been carrying it in my waistband so not to attract attention about me having a blade (in boston, where even my black on black mini grip inspires uneasiness) and I guess when I went to slide it back in there I missed the denim on my jeans and it fell, sad sad day:(

Best: Every time I get a package in the mail with a knife I really want. It's like Christmas

Worst: When I first began to have an interest in knives I bought a Smith and Wesson folder (big POS if I may add) for 50 bucks. Turns out that blade and the price I paid for it sucked. In fact that entire knife store is a sham and charges ridiculous prices on every single blade there. A full size ka-bar (leather sheath and handle) runs $150 CAD there.

Best - realizing that there is a difference between a $100 knife and certain $350+ knives.

My wallet hurts now.

hahaha yeah they are all like that, met a guy who fell of a tin roof, slicing his entire necka nd jaw up, pretty lucky he didn't slit his own throat/part decapitate himself. Was a pretty cool injury, he even asked us to take photos on his phone for him.

Best knife experience... Whenever I get a knife I've really wanted(most recently a BG42 Mnandi) and the worst are probably when I cut myself or I'm in a area like a airport and I can't carry one.

I was clearing my garden the other day and had to chop down some trees. I usually use an axe for this kind of tasks but I thought it would be fun to use my Busse NMSFNO. After 2 hours of severe chopping and batonning there was not even a sign of wear except for 2 little dents from hitting concrete walls on the blade and was shaving sharp. Impressive.

Worst:
Either slicing my fingertips up multiple times with moras when i was little, or the more recent incident where i stabbed myself in the base of my thumb with a blue stainless mora, then going to the hospital for very painful stitches and consequently having both my moras confiscated by my landlords.

Best:
Oh maybe the time when i felled a bigass aspen tree with my Becker bk9
Or the time when i cleared a wide swath through an overgrown river slope with african Cold Steel machetes.
But that's not really a knife experience.. can't think of much i've done with my short blades. Mostly just cut up pizza boxes and macaroni cartons. Though that's fun too.

Worst: Not being able to edc the knives i want because of law-restrictions. And realising the knife you just bought and wanted for so long, isnt so great after all.

Best: When i just save a sheeple's day, and they go wide-eyed and realise how practical a knife really is. And me finding BF of course.

Best
Going from a single-knife collection to multiple-knife collection
Being asked by a young gal if she could use my knife to cut her knitting yarn.

Worst
Playing 'find the knife' in a kitchen sink full of dirty water. Six stitches in the knuckle of my thumb, a late night ER visit, tetanus and dyphtheria shots, and got to see my own thumb bone. Had to wear a brace on my thumb for a month to avoid ripping it back open. Took almost six months to regain feeling and full range of movement.

That ankle picture.

At least you didn't snap it, some guys say its very painful whilst one person I know felt no pain when it happened. Oh and the cool noise it apparently makes :D

Apparently, sounds like a cross between a crisp carrot breaking and a gunshot. Was talking to the ER doc who stitched me up, and he chatted about the chef who'd run a knife across his fingers. When asked to make a fist, the guy did, the tendons snapped, and retracted into the arm.

Worst experience: Doing something dreadfully stupid with a Gerber EZ Out when I was 15 years old. Hacking at a movie ticket. I held the ticket in my right hand and hacked with my left. The ticket got shorter and shorter. And then on the third or fourth time it cut my index finger to the bone.

Fortunately I didn't sever any tendons, but I had to have five stitches. Also, my finger still has a slightly weird sensation to it which acts as a reminder to not be an idiot. I've been much more careful with knives ever since that incident.

Best experience: Discovering BM axis locks.
