Recommendation? YouTube knife reviewers: Any #1 favorite??

He was the first knife reviewer I found when I discovered youtube in my teens. Initially his information was good, if not verbose, and he included videos of actual use. His videos started to get longer but the quality knife content decreased while time spent advertising his patches and relating anecdotes increased.

I quit watching when, in one of his backpacking videos, he pulled out a mini spray can of WD-40 to lubricate a blade he was using to baton firewood. He sprayed the blade before batoning each piece of wood. I just couldn't take him seriously after that.

Yea, I kept him in my subscriptions long after I stopped watching him, but for me it was a video shilling Sebenza knock-offs from Amazon that was the last straw

If I am considering buying or disassembling a knife, I look for it on Nick Shabazz.

Knife Steel Nerds is great, but I read the web site more than I watch on Youtube.

I like people who do more or less serious tests, such as Cedric & Ada, LuvThemKnives, Outdoors55, and--especially because they enjoy using knives so much--DBK.

I like Joe X because sometimes I use knives for purposes we all know they were not intended for.

But my favorite Youtube channel is Project Farm, which sometimes tests knives and sharpeners, but has so much other great stuff!
I am adding CuttingBoardReviews CBR to my list of favorite knife reviewers. He does some of everything and does it very intelligently--he even does math! :)

I started watching CuttingboardReviews too. He doesn't shower manufactures with platitudes and giggles (Metalcumplex🙄) . He uses engineering principles and physics to illustrate his points and backs them up with actual bench and field tests. He'll plainly call out design and manufacturing flaws, and he will openly take on manufactures like Greg Medford for example. His ego seems to be in check, at least he knows he's not a rock star and doesn't need a fancy knight in armor logo with loud music.

Edited to add that CuttingboardReviews is mechanical engineer and who worked as a machinist and later as a manufacturing engineer.

Used to watch nutnfancy over a decade ago when I was still in school and all I could afford was a Spyderco Tenacious. Eventually stopped watching because his ramblings got too much for me. Then I got into Jim Skelton's content specifically for the high end custom knives he showed, but once he got into "the biz" himself I couldn't stand him anymore. Started watching Cedric and Ada and Metal Complex after that, Pete's steel tests specifically sparked my interest, and his sense of humor is also nice. Metal Complex got a bit too full of himself in recent years, even got into an argument with him in the comments calling out his bs opinions (he states as objective fact) and eventually unsubbed. Pete's the only one I still watch even though he doesn't upload as much anymore. I'm fairly active in my country's own bladeforum community and frequently go to meets, for me exchanging experience in real life while handling the knife in question is much more valuable than any stranger on the internet.

I wish The Edge Observer was still going........Feels like a decade since he stopped... Probably is......He rolled all his reviews into Dan's site-----Bladereviews.com..........Solid reviews for a long time......

Knifecenter videos with DCA. Most of the other knife YouTuber's seem like annoying shills and grifters.
I do miss the old Cold Steel videos with Lynn Thompson.

I'm pretty disillusioned with knife youtubers these days. Too many reviewers review on personal preference and not on the intention of the design. That's pointless. And the youtube algorithm awards those who crank out content and Chinese manufacturers are happy to oblige with their flood of products. I'm not saying Chinese knives shouldn't be discussed. But if 90% of the videos are new Chinese knife showcases, I'm out. I've watched this happen to multiple reviewers I used to enjoy. Their content has narrowed to that stream of knives. I'd appreciate more diversity. The knife world is huge and there's lots to talk about.

Nick Shabazz. His review of the Spyderco Whale Rescue Knife is my all-time favorite. And that’s a beautiful thing.

What was the drama all about with him? I don’t keep up with the soap opera that is going on between the various knife channels.

IIRC, he had "giveaways", but kept the knives for himself. And also didn't send out the knives he "sold" while accepting payments from people for them. Something like that. Then he started a wrist watch channel. Maybe because watches are even more expensive?

Apparently he had knives he gave away, never mailed them, sold them….kept loaner knives, etc. there are a lot of videos on YouTube about it. Then he made a cringy video explaining it, that his wife was pregnant, etc…then got pushback from the video , pulled it down and released another saying he was stepping back from the community…hadn’t been seen since.

I can honestly say that I have never watched a you tube knife review video!!
Never!! 🤨
Don’t really care what someone else thinks about a certain knife or??? 😠
John 😁

Cedric & Ada Gear is the best blend of humor, information, and actual testing of edge retention, comfort, and usability. I don't want to see knives on a little mat for 15 mins that will never cut a single thing.
