Youtube knife reviews - a few thoughts

I try to keep my video under the 10 minutes mark.

Then you have other folks that enjoy the solitude of thinking so highly of themselves and that everyone is beneath them in every aspect of knives that is pathetic. Those people cannot be questioned and feel they are above reproach, and they are more nuissance than necessary. The followers that don't know any better yet decide to be mouthpieces for them are even worse.

Lack of humility is correct. This applies to more than just the knife world. There are self-appointed experts in just about every area of interest that you can think of, and they are more than happy to let you know it.

I'm sporting the chrome dome again... a girl at AA called me Heisenberg.

Big CM is the one who knocks!!

There are several different YT folks whose videos I'll watch when searching out a knife review for something I'm considering purchasing. I've watched Nutn videos before, and frankly, I don't HATE hate the guy. I just can't stand how long some of his videos go on...over something that could have been covered in several minutes. For that matter, I won't watch ANY gear review that's longer than ten or fifteen minutes. There's just not a need for that sort of length.

If he's really excited about a knife, some of the reviews can be 30 minutes or close to that... but only about 12-15 minutes are useful to the viewer, honestly.

Agreed, and honestly, it's just a bunch of commentary talking about how this knife can be used by "sheepdogs". I have to say that his slavish requirements for weight crack me up when you see his run'n-gun videos where he's kitted out with the entire mall ninja battle rattle.

The weight thing is pretty hilarious to me, honestly. Over 3oz?!?! No way! That just cuts out way too many quality knives. I mean heck, ONE small handgun weighs more than even some of the heaviest folders. I used to EDC some pretty big, heavy folders. After a little while they seriously don't feel that heavy in the pocket... like most things, it just takes a little time for the body to get used to it. Then it's like nothing. In my experience.

Knife reviews are great when I'm totally bored and then at least the subject matter is interesting. Also catalog fotos and stills of some knives just don't show all the facets of the knife I'm considering. Fer instance, a few years ago I began to be interested in modern folders and the SOG Trident in particular. I'm glad the reviewer mentioned its hollow plastic scales and other reviewers mentioned the vertical and horizontal blade play that manifests itself after a small amount of use. I never did buy one. You won't catch me getting a Benchmade Griptilian either just because of the scales. Blade HQ vids are simple to the point and I prefer them.

I think Nutn's videos are very good, i like them,
He has been doing his own thing on YouTube for a very long time,
When I'm going to buy I knife, I watch Nutn's vids first, I like the system he works with, and I can easily watch a 45 min vid of him talking about a knife or a gun.
I'm watching one right now!

I don't think that word means what you think it means. LOL

Red, you're a well grounded individual, I don't think you have anything to worry about.

There is a saying that picked up from another mod here, and someone I respect and consider a friend:

"Those that know the least, know it the loudest." :D

If I were a knife reviewer and was talking about a knife with a pocket clip, I'd show the knife clipped to a pocket -- every time. Just keep some folded up jeans on hand to let viewers get some idea about how the knife rides.

Gaw, thanks Rev. ;) I like the way your fellow Mod/friend thinks, also. Very wise take on things.

Please state how you required the item you review. Did you get paid to review this knife? Did you buy it yourself? Did the company send it to you for free? Stating how you require your reviewing objects will increase the integrity of the channel.

AQUIRED, not required. Two different words with two different meanings

Also, check this guy out. He has an inside scoop on KAI stuff and has excellent production quality.

I can't stand it when a reviewer takes too long with out opening the knife and they just yap about bull$hit, I'm interested in the blade and I could look at the handle while the knife is open also, LOL......Or if it's a fixed blade and they take 6 minutes talking about the sheath before talking about the actual knife.
