You've got $150 to buy a strong USA made 5160 lifetime warranty survival knife

Buck/Hood Hoodlum. I have it and it is an awesome knife. Really thick blade, full flat grind, full tang, and the ergonomics are great. It can be had for about $140, and it feels amazing in your hand.

ESEE heat treating on 1095 is excellent....makes the most of this steel. Many always say 1095 is cheap but with the right heat treating it is up there with the very best. it might not be corrosion resistent but it is easy to sharpen, tough, and holds an edge well. My Junglas, ESEE 4, 6 have been beat and they do not need sharpening. I am impressed to say the least about how 1095 from ESEE has held up. As for SR101...dont have any experience but it seems to be well regarded as well. However I cannot attest to that first hand.

I have to agree..I have seen and heard some bad rolling issues with 5160. But it depends who is making it. RAT RTAKII had some rolling in a few tests I have seen and Nutnfancy I believe had some issues with a 5160 blade he tested that chipped and rolled.

Its too thin at 3/16" thick. The Nepal Kukuri is also spring steel, but 3/8" thick:thumbup:

After all our awesome advice??!! ;)

Out of curiousity, why did you go with that one?

Well I own an lmf ii...I just bought Ontario NS7...my brother just bought the hoodlum and an ontario 6 incher.... and I thought it might be neat to try out this "do it all" hellion. Although I was very near to buying the esee junglas....

Gotcha. Enjoy all those blades. Do know that we will continue to post another 2-3 pages of reccomendations though! :) ;)

I don't know what a mall ninja is yet because I am new to this particular forum...

But it sounds like I don't think I wanna be one....

Post away... I appreciate all the info I can use on the topic.

Well in that case, buy a HI Tamang and Swamp Rat Battle Rat...

(I love how that pic came out and just look for excuses to post it :) )

At first I was like "What the hell is a hawke hellion anyway"

And then I just laughed.

Glad you came to a decision. Hope you enjoy it!

I know it's not American made, but I just picked up a Fallkniven F1 for bushwork/survival use. Great knife in hand!

I prefer to stick to a smaller knife and leave the chopping duties to a machete or axe. Shotguns are for bears and flamethrowers work best for zombies.

I decided on the hawke hellion. Ordered it last night.

Too bad for me, because I was late to the thread. I was going to PM you an offer to buy an original (pre-Ontario) Ranger RD-7 in 5160 for a whole lot less that $150.
