You've got $150 to buy a strong USA made 5160 lifetime warranty survival knife

The Hawke's will thank you! More Man, Woman, Wild episodes!! And... it doubles as a paint scraper. What's with the big teeth on the top... or is that some giant jimping? Isn't it $240? hope it's what you wanted.... It's .188" vs the Hoodlum's .220" of 5160. Just seems weird! The best of luck.

Ha ha ha ya the man woman wild shows were pretty funny at times.... If I'm not happy with it I will add it to the other Bug out pack and buy something else... no biggie.
I paid $163 shipped on ebay for the big version Hellion.
My brother got his Hoodlum in the mail today, he loves it! I'm gonna have to go over and check it out..

I'd look at the Ontario 2nd Gen knives. The SP50 and 51 specifically. You'd have scratch left over to deal w/ the 'just okay' sheath.

I have a SP50 and have not babied it. It's tough.

Do not want.

I think I would actually really like the Hellion if it didn't have the "saw" teeth on the back of it. The way the blade is shaped it looks like it would chop very well.... Almost in bolo or khukri kind of way. Make sure and let us know how you like it!

I wouldn't mind if the swedgy stuff on the back were just flat spine, and if they rounded out that tanto point. Sawteeth are fine if there's a couple inches at the point for battoning surface.

Everyone keeps telling him to get a 711 or a RMD but he appears to want something he can actually get withing a few days of ordering it and you know that will not be the case for either of those knives. I will say the Hellion isn't the most practical of blades ubt at least he got what he liked the most. Now find at least 3 practical uses for it;) I too would like to see a review and a vid/pics of it in use once you get it to the woods or at least the back yard.

You will probably love it too. I can't stop holding mine waiting to get it back outdoors, lol. It a hell of a knife and the new Buck/Hood Punk looks like it's equally awesome little brother you should check it out. Here's the link to the only place you can currently buy it.

Swamp Rat is what I would lean towards, they make great knives, have great warranties and are great to deal with

Lots of custom makers out there that would work with you. I have four choppers right now. Gossman 8" Tusker, NWA Woodsman, Idaho Mike Mann Hudson Bay and Terry Baublitz Hudson Bay. Terry passed away a couple years ago, and the Mike Mann is about 4 Benjamins. The NWA and Gossman are less than the Mike Mann, but in the 300's range. You can work with both makers on what you want. Both are O1, and are comfortable to use!

You'll get there eventually, why not get it over and done with?

If you wanna stay with production knives, under 2 bucks, I would go the ESEE RC6 or Junglas route. A lot of the other brands are too thick for me. I don't even know if Bark River makes choppers anymore, but their models are right around the 250-300 range?

When do we ever let an OP's opinions/buys/wants get in the way of our chatting and talking about knives?! ;) :)

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, now that I got that out, I vote for an F1 if you want a normal sized outdoor knife and a Bussekin for overkill.

If you like 5160, you should head over to the Himalayan Imports forum. Their products aren't made in the US, but you can definitely feel good about buying them, as your money is being put to good use.

For your purposes, I'd recommend the Pen Knife, or a 12" or 15" Ang Khola.

If you want to go custom, you should consider two makers who specialize in 5160, at your price point you could buy a new GL Drew or a Siegle second hand. Siegle does more tac stuff and choppers, differential heat treat that is bangin. GL's coke bottlish handles are super comfortable and hand forged. Good luck on your quest.
