You can get a 1x42 at Lowe's or Home Depot for $99. Goes on sale all the time. It also has a disc sander with it. Delta SA-180.

The rule I keep to is that the faster it moves = the lighter the touch and the higher the grit.

So far, no ruined tempers.

I have the Spyderco sharpener but use the rods free hand or mounted like a benchstone.

I would like to see how the Edgepro performs.

Dale has a standing offer, send any knife you want, and he'll put a hair poppin' edge on it. Just pay for return S&H, you don't have to send him a $5,000 knife send him a factory folder and insure it shouldn't cost more than a couple of beers, you'll be amazed.

whats dale's address. i need to know what really sharp is. i still think i only achive semi-sharpnes. can shave but will cause a burn type.

Ever see Edward Munch's "The Scream"? Well, that was after I whipped out my 12" EF diamond steel and sharpend my bowie.;) And all this time you been wondering where "screaming sharp" came from.:D Seriously, steeling is my favorite way to sharpen. Not the best way sure, but fast and fav to shaving sharp.

Steeling or burnishing - this is the best way to go if you are willing to learn how. When you steel or burnish you are pushing the edge back into alignment without removing the steel (provided your butcher's steel has longitudinal grooves, not lattitudinal grooves). This is surely the "healthiest" sharpening method. Congratulations on taking the time to learn to do it right!

If only everybody was willing to learn how to burnish and strop...
