Zero tolerance 0392purblk

I skipped on this one also because of the purple. Also the solid black is not that appealing to me either. I still own and regularly carry the first two versions of the 0392. Thing is, I still find it interesting that the 0392 has so many variants, and they are all Limited Edition. They should just be called sprint runs or something. The whole "custom anodized hardware from Hinderer" is a little played out. What I am glad about is that most will be able to get in on this model over time since the prices are not going up.

I actually really like the color combo.
 
A full day later and several dealers still have them in stock. Unheard of. Maybe they just made more this time?
 
As someone said earlier, I think we're dealing with an over saturation of 0392 LEs along with a color/blade choice that has the most limited market of any LE yet. Combined with a demonstrated low flip value...and we have what we have. This is good in a way; it means that anyone who really wants this knife is getting ample chance to get one.
 
I think once the pictures start coming in people are gonna wish they grabbed one.

Could someone tell me what the tip is like on these? Pin point? Fragile? Meaty?

Wow, still available at 4 out of 6 retailers. I have to wonder if maybe ZT didn't make more of this model than other LEs? Could this knife be that unpopular? I've looked at the pictures posted here and thought it looked good from time to time...this is confusing.

I think it's just the case with knife market right now. Secondary sales seem particularly slow. Plus ZT put out numerous limited editions recently. The 0801BRZ sold out super fast from the popular dealers but there were still a lot available from the lesser known online retailers for quite a while.

In the case of the 0392PURBLK, I think it could also be the more unique colorway and bladeshape. Personally, I like the color combo but I'm not a fan of the super pointy wharncliff blade.

They only did that once if memory serves, but even their servers had issues with the crazy traffic. It's easier to spread the traffic across 6 or so dealers servers, so they went back to that method.

Aside from server issues they also had people who couldn't buy the offering calling in to berate their customer service employees which caused additional problems. They are not really setup for direct customer sales.

There are many possible reasons for the slow selling of 0392PURBLKWC.

Too many models in the series?

  1. 0392
  2. 0392BWBRZ
  3. 0392BRNGLD
  4. 0392BLKGRN
  5. 0392WC
  6. 0392PURBLKWC
The first two still get snapped up fastest in the secondary market.

Color schemes polarizing?

Some don't like all black or too much DLC. Some don't like the various color schemes and colored hardware. The first two were rather tame with the color schemes.

Wharncliffe blade not as popular as some other blade shapes?

Six models in the series but only two blade shapes. It would've been better to offer so many other blade shapes that Hinderer also offers: Spanto, Slicer, Tanto, Bowie, Spearpoint, etc.

Flippers (profiteers) are not making money in the secondary market?

This is probably the biggest reason. Flippers seem to have abandoned this series. 0392WC is barely selling above cost.
