Similar street pricing of around $240 for these two premium production flippers.

Comparable blade steel (approximately 3.5" long and 0.16" thick) of M390 & CTS-204P.

0562CF has a flat grind drop point vs. hollow grind modified drop point for the Southard.

0562CF has Carbon Fiber to the G-10 on the Southard. Advantage 0562CF.

Hardened stainless steel insert on the 0562CF lockbar and none on the Southard. Advantage 0562CF.

Southard weighs just 4.1 ounces vs. 5.45 ounces for 0562CF. Advantage Southard.

I'd get the 562 because I like flat grinds over hollow. I like the Southard's design more overall.

Similar street pricing of around $240 for these two premium production flippers.- I just got a Southard for 200 dollars

Comparable blade steel (approximately 3.5" long and 0.16" thick) of M390 & CTS-204P. - CTS-204p just rolls off the tongue easier :)

0562CF has a flat grind drop point vs. hollow grind modified drop point for the Southard.-As weird as it is on paper, the hollow grind actually cuts and slices better in actual use

0562CF has Carbon Fiber to the G-10 on the Southard. Advantage 0562CF.-Yes, CF wins here

Hardened stainless steel insert on the 0562CF lockbar and none on the Southard. Advantage 0562CF.-On the Spyderco forum Brad Southard has stated the lockbar is hardened, making no steel insert needed.

Southard weighs just 4.1 ounces vs. 5.45 ounces for 0562CF. Advantage Southard. -

I've added my input for your points of interest!

I voted Southard, mostly due to weight (all of the Southards I carry are under 3.9oz, incidentally). That said, as Yo Mama points out above, you can buy a brand new Southard for $200 (the big river had it for that much the last time I checked).

There's a Southard waiting for me back home on my doorstep as I type this... $200 is accurate for most places, maybe $210. But... something tells me you already knew that.

Regarding the street price of around $200 now for the Southard I say let's wait until there's ample supplies of the 0562CF and we should see it for around $200. For instance, ZT 0801 with MSRP of $240 was selling for $192 (MAP price or 20% off MSRP) last year upon introduction. Now, you can easily find it for about $160 (30%+ off MSRP).

Also, remember that to put a CF scale on the Southard costs an additional $80-$100.

Southard is $249 at BladeHQ and $245.95 at KnifeWorks.

Additionally, while the lock face of the Southard has been carbidized/hardened without a replaceable steel insert you have the issue of wear. How practical that is will depend on usage.

One of my Southards with LSCF scale instead of G-10 weighs exactly 4.00 ounces.

My Southard with an Ivory Snake Juma scale weighs 3.9 ounces, and it's at the upper limit of what I'm willing to carry.

Not a Southard fan, so my vote is automatically for the ZT.

I don't think there's any way to get around the 0562CF. I think it's the knife of the decade. Even though I'll never carry one, I'll buy one just to have it. It's really a great folder!

I'd go with the ZT, as well. I prefer Hinderer designs and have become quite the big fan of flat grinds.

I've owned both and prefer the ZT. One potential handicap of the southard is the internal stop pin. It certainly weakens the blade, there was even one reported breakage at that point. I really like how all the ZT Hinderers use external stop pins. I also find the ergos much better on the ZT.

I'll take the ZT out of the two. To be honest, neither really appeals to me, but I suspect the street price of the 0562 will normalize around Southard levels and I think you get just a bit more for your money with it.

My god people your talking like an ounce or two is gonna break you

It can make a fairly big difference, depending on what you're wearing. I'll carry darn near anything in jeans or cargo pants, but for light slacks or scrubs I become conspicuously aware of knives that weigh more than 4-5oz.

So far, that Southard incident seems quite isolated and I wouldn't read too much into it: Spyderco Southard blade failure with pics

I like the design of the Southard better but could see myself using the ZT more. Guess I will have to wait until I have one to make a more informed opinion.

I have a Southard, and a 0560, and a few other ZT's, so I am a fan of both. Tough choice, but I picked ZT. The Southard is a slick little knife though.
