Yup, wrong thread to get into. There are plenty of threads on topics that might more apply to you. There are a lot people on this forum who do use knives for dressing game and gutting fish, and to claim otherwise is completely misinformed.

This is a vs. thread between two expensive pocket knives. Nobody here is going to be splitting wood with either of these knives like you claim.

Sit back a bit, go to sub forums that are more pertinent to what your experience and usage of knives relate to, read some stuff that might matter to you. Contribute in areas you have valuable information to share. Don't just troll on things you don't like or understand. And certainly don't insult us by claiming we need "counseling". We already know that.

Well said. We get a little silly in some places in our own way, but there is a place here to find and share all our combined levels of knowledge.

I like the southard a bit more. I like slicer blades a little more on my folders. Great steel. Easy to carry. Got a awesome custom scale on its way.

If you don't mind me asking, who did you get the custom scale from?

I bought a southard to see what it was like. And within a few minutes I knew it wasn't for me. I am currently selling it. The zt however I am waiting like a kid at Christmas for. Great steel, great build, great design for me its not even close the 562 wins hands down.

The only complaint I have with the Southard is the Spidey hole. I just wish Spyderco swallowed their pride for a moment and left their "signature" off this one. Its not even functional in this instance and really takes away from the look of the blade.

Oh I'm getting excited to get my 562CF! Considering the Southard is currently my favorite knife, the reviews for the ZT look promising...

Did you really join a knife forum to tell a bunch of knife aficionados that they spend too much money on knives? Really?

Thanks for the several replies you sent me. I am having difficulty using the forum and I won't post again till I learn something about how it works. I got email when I first signed in that told me to read the FAQ and I can't even find that. Maybe because I use an iPad with an app instead of a web browser. Thanks again, for being helpful. I know I am a disagreeable old fart.

This was the only way I know to get back to you.

Looking forward to some side by side pics as soon as some of you get your ZT's.
Mine's on it's way too but unfortunately no Southard for comparison.

Since you're new and despite your disparaging remarks here's a very helpful thread: NEED HELP? Read this before posting! Rules, Paid Memberships, FAQ's & More

0562CF is made in USA and it's more economical....Wait a minute.... Is M390 from the USA?I vote for American built.

Spyderco is a U.S. company, CTS-204P is a U.S. made steel and Southard is manufactured in Taiwan.

Zero Tolerance and KAI USA are owned by the Japanese KAI Group, M390 is a European made steel and 0562CF is manufactured in the U.S.

Personally, none of the above matters much except for the high-quality end product.

I can't really vote yet since I'm still waiting for a good deal on an 0562. Its going go be a close call except for the weight of the ZT. As has been mentioned, that would be too noticible in slacks. I'm getting one anyway, been looking forward to it since they were announced.

Is the 0562s liner milled out at all? I wonder if it could be made any lighter.

Thanks for the picture. I wonder why they didn't skeletonize it though. The 0550's liner is more empty space than metal. That would have trimmed off a good amount of weight.

Interesting design to hold the bearings and keep the liner very thin.

It's mystifying that ZT is so against skeletonizing and I can only speculate that they want their knives to be the toughest possible with no weaknesses in structural integrity. Spyderco did go too far one time in the Bushcraft fixed blade and after some blades breaking they removed the hole closest to the ricasso.

Some examples of Spyderco skeletonizing liners (Southard and Gayle Bradley):

You're probably right that its for extra strength. That 0562 liner does look very thin.

Spyderco does a great job but not quite as well as that Gayle Bradley there. Someone poked a few extra aftermarket holes in those liners. Can't recall their name at the moment.

I thought it looked weird and it looks like it was done on the first generation GB because I looked at mine now and the placement of holes are different. GB is one tough folder with those thick SS liners and my latest one is still 5.13 ounces (compared to 3.83 ounces for a similarly sized Para-Military2).

240 seems high. The price knifecenter lists for preorder is 220 for the c.f. version and 159 for the g10 version. Definitely picking up the g10 o e at that price.
