What do you guys think about this upcoming knife? Several places have it available for pre-order at $180. I love carbon fiber and was considering a Large CRK Sebenza in carbon fiber from KnifeArt but the $455 price tag has me debating. Is the 0770CF worth the wait? I've never owned a ZT or any Elmax Steel blade for that matter.

According to most of us in the Kershaw/ZT sub forum, yes, it'll be well worth it.

I've enjoyed Elmax far more than my S35VN. It's harder to sharpen, but it holds an edge for a good long while and it can take some abuse. These new ZTs are just excellent for what they cost. The fit and finish on the ones at the Blade Show were perfect, and the 0770 was no exception. If you don't want to spend 400+ I would say go for it. I'm still loving my ZT0801. If I have to hid it in the bottom of my closet so I can use my other knives.

To anyone who has held one, are the scales 100% carbon fiber or a laminate over G-10 like Spyderco?

I prefer the more utilitarian look (and lower pricetag) of the aluminum version. I think I'm in the minority here though.

That question might be better asked in the KAI subforum, I'm sure Jimmer or KAI Corp could answer you.

I haven't held one, but the scales are 100% carbon fiber. I don't even know if KAI has ever used a carbon fiber laminate.

I'm excited to see the 0770CF hit the streets. I'm hoping that It'll be able to become a manual.

It's really a deal-breaker for me if this thing is assisted-opening only. If it's got a detent so that it will work without the torsion bar, then I'm in. If not, then it's not for me. I love the looks of it, though.

Random question, but why are so many people against the assisted opening feature? I'm new to this forum, why is manual better?

I'll speak for myself and say why I prefer manual to assisted opening. I don't like that attention that assisted opening draws. I also think it's one more thing to go wrong and can cause unnecessary wear on the lock with since the knife is opening with greater force. There's also the fact that you have to overcome the torsion bar when closing the knife. That last point is a bigger issue with larger blades, though, as they require a more powerful torsion bar.

The Zero Tolerance 0770CF is worth waiting for with its shiny pivot screw and full carbon fiber handles.

It's an assisted opening flipper with a spring. This is done by ZT to attract more mainstream customers to their line beyond the mostly enthusiast audience on such forums. Many need the assisted opening to reliably deploy the blade every time. ZT is working on the possibility that the user can convert to a manual flipper but as of now it's an unknown if that'll be certainty.

The CF handles on the 0770CF are flat and do not have 3D contours like on the 0770 Aluminum (it'll still be released but as limited edition). If the CF scales on the ZT 0560CBCF and 0777 are any indication and they have something similar on the 0770CF with good texturing then it'll be great.

I'm guessing the 0770CF and 0770 Aluminum will be released within the next couple of months.

It may have a detent, I know they were going to try to put one in.

I have a preorder in on a 0770CF, but I'm anxiously awaiting news on whether it actually has a detent or not. With a detent so I can toss the torsion bar it's a no-brainer. If it's speedsafe only, there goes my interest level :(

I'm debating whether to pre-order it or wait to see some hands on reviews after it is released. I'm just afraid that the knife will race off shelves if I don't pre-order.

The ZT 0770CF is a regular production model so other than the first month or so after release you'll be able to find one. Unless, like me you needed to have it yesterday. :)

I may just pre-order to prevent knife withdrawal

if it's a solid elmax blade and real carbon fiber (not outer ply) i'll take one. it'll be my first non-spyderknife.

Solid 3.25" Elmax stonewashed blade plus solid & real carbon fiber handles making it weigh just 3 ounces!

I like the look of the knife, but I'm not a big fan of the SpeedSafe® assisted opening system.

I'll be interested to see if these are easily converted to manual opening or not.
