Zero Tolerance 0770CF

I know it's the little brother to the ZT0777, but for some reason, it doesn't look nearly as good.

To keep things in perspective, you'll be paying about $180 for the 0770, lucky to find a BNIB 0777 for under $1,000 and the 0777-M390 probably around $400.

in general, I like the blade style, though it would be better with more of a dropped, negative angle for me. the weight seems nice, hopefully this means the blade isn't too thick. both flipper and ao make it a no purchase from me, and from what I've seen of production elmax, the price is just too high for what the steel offers. I guess if you're into the whole package it would be worth it, but there are plenty of production blades with higher level steels for equal or less cost.

looks nice and sleek.

I heard a lot of good comments about the Elmax steel they use. It's 3rd generation I read. I personally don't have any affinity with Elmax steel yet. Does someone of you used Elmax from ZT and what is your feedback?

I have one on pre-order and have no problem with AO.I think it's going to be a really nice knife.I don't know if it will have a detent.

While we are working on trying to balance our next gen A/O's to include a detent, it is very difficult to capture. The one's I have played with (0566's) had a very soft detent, and were borderline on whether it would be truly effective as a manual. I'd caution expectation with manual conversions going forward, as I don't feel it will have a heavy enough detent to flip without wrist action, and keeping the blade secure in the closed position was slight.

I guess I should add that a heavy detent with A/O made for difficult opening, and a very strange feel.

We'll keep working on it, and as time goes on, will be trying to dial it in best we can.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the information. Maybe I can convince myself to try SpeedSafe again.

The reason you're seeing A/O in these new offerings is due to demand. The majority want A/O. We just sell more A/O at the end of the day. Sometimes you wouldn't know that by reading this forum, but simply put, A/O's just sell better.

This is not to say everything from us in the future will be A/O, but it's popularity can't be denied.

I have never had any problems with ZT's Elmax and Have put my knives through the paces.I consider Elmax a step up from S30v and have never had any chipping or edge retention issues ever.Great toughness for a stainless and top of the list of standard production steels used by any production knife producer in my opinion.I am an avid outdoorsman and my use of knives as tools goes far beyond cutting string, boxes, and envelopes.I always re-profile my blades to my preferred edge geometry. My latest Elmax knife 0801 took a good while to re-profile and is hair splitting sharp and holding it's edge like a champ......

I love my A/O knives and honestly can't wait for the 0770. After handling one at Blade, I knew it was going to be a personal favorite.

At this point in my knife collecting, I'm not really looking for A/O knives as they don't appeal to me, but I understand the decision to use them in a wider variety of knives. I know the quality and F&F is always there and present, but a manual knife feels like a higher quality piece than an A/O knife, to me.

Been lurking a ton....looks like I missed my opportunity to bid the sub a farewell. Some phenomenal work coming out of design lately. Loving it.

Life's too short! :)
