I just would have preferred that it go to someone who would enjoy it, not flip it. I don't have a problem with him making a profit on it.

Well I'm sure the guy who paid 12 bills for it will enjoy it. He's certainly not going to flip it. haha

Of course I meant 0777 chester22. Why would it have to be the 0700 to die lol? I want to see a photo of one that is being used.

I'll have more pics in the coming months of it in use once it comes back from spring break in Oregon :D

That's too bad. You help someone and then... I am still waiting on my order to get filled. No sad story; I'll just buy a couple and use them.

The guy who sold that 0777 on the Bay is a member here and bought that knife from me (#212). Gave me a big song and dance about how badly he wanted one, blah blah blah. Said he would give me first chance to buy it back if he ever sold it. Seems he couldn't wait to get his hands on it so he could just sell it off. I don't mind someone making a little money on it, but in my mind he's just a scammer and that won't change. I won't deal with him ever again.

He didn't sell it to a personal friend. He just sold it. What the buyer does with it is no longer his business. There were no "false pretenses" to make. Sell the item for the price you want, and thats it. That's what he did. If Russ gave him a discounted collectors price for his word that he'd have first dibs to buy it back, well no offense to him, but that was foolish on his part. It's no secret that these rare knives can sell for ridiculous prices on eBay. If he wanted to make the highest profit by putting it on eBay then he's entitled to. He was on top of the preorder and took care of it once he had it. There is no shame in selling something that appreciates in value to those who have more disposable income than the rest of us. Thats just business.

Russ didn't get scammed, he was paid, put the knife in the mail, and that was the end of it. If I wanted to make the highest dollar on a uber rare knife I'd put it on eBay. If I wanted a quick easy sale, I'll sell it on the forums.

He/She is entitled within the legal boundaries to do whatever for a profit. But why does it seem a bit predatory in this case?

People flip knives all the time, sometimes lose a bit, break even, or even profit from it. There's nothing wrong with that. But in this case, likely had no intention of keeping/using the knife, pretty much "here today, gone today". Sold some hoopla bullcrap to poolhustler about how bad he wanted it and all that. But he has the freedom to flip and exploit us... and I have the freedom to not like what just happened.

I don't think anyone is really talking about entitlements and the legal ability to sell what they want at whatever price they want.

In this instance, it's more about a breach of taste. I sometimes would read things about the knife "community" and then read things like this. It makes me smile a bit usually, but being an e-buddy of Russ, I do feel a bit as if it was done in poor taste. Russ is a good guy, and like some of the other regulars around here, do go out of their way to help people get the pieces they are hoping for.

I'd have loved that 0777, and very likely wouldn't have sold it. Probably wouldn't have used it, but it would share a cozy spot next to my TiLT. I certainly wouldn't pull a used-car-salesman like pitch to someone to get their rare knife and then immediately sell it for profit. Why? Because I have integrity.

Exactly. Making a profit on anything is not the issue here. It isn't anyone's business but the sellers and the buyers really. It's the sob story to get it, is what is in question. Very immoral and sleazy IMHO. If he got it on a pre order from anywhere this would be a non.issue.

From this I have learned a lesson, I wont do any special deals unless its to members on here I am familiar with.

Id put it in the good/bad and ugly. And share his name on here. There are some good hearted people here, who will sell knives they plan to keep because one of us want one.

If it was part of the deal that you get first chance at buy back, that is legally binding. Once the agreement was made and some consideration from one of the parties was given that became a legal contract. So technically, the flipper broke an agreement and did do something wrong.

chester, those pics are amazing! Kinda thought I'd never see that knife in use. Well done.

Personally, masquerading under false pretenses is no way to conduct yourself -- the end doesn't always justify the means.

Perhaps for those selling and buying there should be "Code of Conduct" agreed upon by both parties. Certainly, you can't hold them to it but then again the individual's eventual conduct is out in the open. For instance, in this case, if they "agreed" that the buyer would not sell the knife for a period of one year and if before that it'd be at the selling price back to the original seller.
