Zero Tolerance Model 0560CBCF

I have just purchased the 0560CBCF, and am extremely happy with it. Everyone in the fine knife community, has been lead to believe that this line of limited editions, is only for 1000 pieces. This line is gone well past 1000 pieces. Just walked to S&R Knives in Toronto Ontario, and got a #0819. But they had some on the shelf that went too #1398!!! I am so disappointed in Zero Tolerance. I mean, when Spyderco discontinues a knife, it is definitely, absolutely, discontinued. They say it will happen, and it dose. This shows an large amount of respect to the consumers and collectors of the knives they love and collect. However, Zero is jumping well over the line with this.... they said 1000, and are making more. Very disrespectful to the collectors, that knew there would be 1000. This leaves me to wounder, if my 0350 Orange was a true 1 of 1000 piece production... or if there were more. I am a big supporter of Spyderco and Benchmade because of their dedication to the people who but the knives (especially limited and sprint runs). Buying a 0560CBCF and seeing the addition of "extra" pieces to a limited production run that I spent $400 on, has made me second guess my beliefs in ZT. Great products.. but I hate to see morals and greed take a company. Could you Imagen Spyderco announced a sprint run, sold all the pieces, and then 6 months later re-launched the sprint run. Whats the difference here?

OMG, I can't believe the crap people bitch about. Totally insane !

I have been a supporter of Kershaw/Kai for nearly 30 years and know more people there than most if not all people on this forum, there is not a company out there with anymore integrity and respect than Kershaw, it really irritates me when somebody that knows nothing trash talks people I care about. I am also extremely tired of all the whiners bitching about every little mediocre thing they can find to bitch about, does anybody still look for the good in people or isn't that as much fun ?

Looks like he's just trolling. He copied and pasted the exact same comment in another cbcf thread. Some people just want to watch the world burn.

Was this advertised as a limited run of 1000 or a limited run with a unspecified number from the start? I don't know myself?

I was thinking the exact same thing......except for the knowing Kershaw personally thing.........and the part about being a fan for 30 years, because I'm not even 30 years old.

It was advertised as a limited run. The 1000 was an *approximate* number provided in January ("approximate" being the operational term) as to the number that was being targeted. From there, people started dropping the "approximate" part and started mistakenly quoting that number as an exact figure.

However, Zero is jumping well over the line with this.... they said 1000, and are making more. Very disrespectful to the collectors, that knew there would be 1000.

It is impossible to know the exact number that will make it into circulation until after all the parts are machined, assembled, QC & finishing touches completed, and shipped out. Hence, they said "approximately" 1000 units. Could be 900. Could be 1100. Or more. Or less. In the end, the number will be what it is.

They buy materials and build more units than the target number, since some number are not going to be sold. Although much of the machining is automated, the knives is still assembled and finished by hand (ie. by people), so there are going to be some variables that cannot be exactly known beforehand (eg. damaged during manufacturing/assembly, doesn't pass QC, someone drops it on the factory floor while putting it in its packaging and dings the handle scales, etc.). Heck, even fully automated/computerized processes (eg. IC fabrication) doesn't have guaranteed yields, and those are done under substantially more controlled environments and processes.

Could you Imagen Spyderco announced a sprint run, sold all the pieces, and then 6 months later re-launched the sprint run. Whats the difference here?

Did someone from KAI say they are planning to make additional runs of the 0560CBCF?

I hope they make ten thousand ;)

I feel so sorry for the scalpers who thought that this was gonna be easy pickings

It seems like 1000 pieces was an official number, at least it was repeated so much that it became that way. So they made more and now more people will have a chance to get one at under $400... Instead of more inflated prices and more people left out. Is that really a bad thing? I guess to some who looked at this as an investment and not as a pocket knife, it is. I understand that side of the hobby. I'm not affected by it though. If you are so upset, sell it... Don't ask for too much though cuz your not gonna get it :p

I think manufacturers should just take the stance that if a knife is popular they're going to make as many as will sell, sprint run, or not. If they sell well, just make another 600. Rinse and repeat. I'd rather see the manufacturers make money than the flippers.

Seeing as the focus is on the 0560CBCF, does anyone know if the lock bar is carbidized? Thanks.

Random pic....

It's carbidized, just like the 056X.

As for Dave's expression earlier, I totally agree. All this whining is getting really... really ridiculous. If someone opened the box and there was a spec of dust in it, that person would complain about how these knives weren't stored in the cleanest of places prior to shipping. If ZT cancelled its future limited editions, I wouldn't like it one bit, but would understand.

Has anyone paid any attention? Thomas said 900, 950 were released. That's not above the 1000 Mark. Unless I'm missing something. And if I am please enlighten me.

That's the last official word I've seen too.

Guys, Honestly. By Wednesday, I will have a picture of one that is above #1000... Well above #1000. Do you think I would bring this up for just any reason. I'm genuinely pissed. If Lexus made over 500 LFA's after their projected release numbers.... that would piss me off too, If I dished out that kind of money for one! I wanna know it was that number! And P.S - Jaytaylor has one that is #1006

These are made to be knives not freaking museum pieces. Thats the serial number not how many are being released to the public. If it bothers you so much don't buy it. More for the rest of us. Its a Limited Production Knife not Limited Edition.

Your right, according to second email I got from ZT they did make over 1000 CBCF's, they made 1500 and let no blems go through for total of somewhere from 1300 to 1500 made.

That's still a small run of knives.

They advertised the CBCF as approximately 1000 were to be made, the key word being approximately.

Yes they did overshoot the target by 3 or 4 hundred but I don't think in the long run it will make much difference.

I'd be willing to bet that a few years from now these will most likely worth more than they sold for new. How much? Impossible to answer.

I also bought 2(one to use and one to keep)and it doesn't bother me that they made a few hundred over..

You're pissed, great. No one else is, so maybe you should re-evaluate your feelings on the matter. If you're still mad, sell all your KAI knives and never buy another. Or enjoy them for what they are, nice knives by a good company.
