Zero Tolerance vs. Benchmade

In the size blade you're looking for I would definitely recommend the ZT 0566. It's very comfortable in the hand, strong, good jimping and I like the fact that it can be assisted or manual, (sometimes you just like to have a change). While I also love Benchmades, I just think the ZT will fit your needs better.

Benchmade. Any day of the week for a number of reasons: USA owned and manufactured; excellent customer service and community relations; the axis lock is much faster, stronger, more durable, and has greater longevity than frame locks; and great choice of steels.

ZT makes good products, but I find that there knives are usually very chunky and have hot spots after extended use. I do not like flippers. I'm also not a fan of their marketing and distribution model [it makes rare ZTs difficult to obtain] and community relations. Their warranty service is solid though.

They are all great knives. But you need to decide if you just want a thumbstud or flipper. Axis or Frame lock.
Both are USA made.

I am waiting on the 0562 for the refined design. The 0561 is just a bit overkill for me.
I would wait until summer to get one of those. You can pre order now for G10/Elmax or Carbon Fiber/M390.

For Benchmade I would get a 940 or Grip with some aftermarket scales.

Maybe the OP doesn't want the heft of a ZT 0566? I know a lot of people are suggesting it, but it's a chunky knife compared to almost ANY Benchmade in his price range.

I faced the same conundrum(Zero Tolerance vs. Benchmade) a few weeks ago, decided to go with the Benchmade 940-2 because... Axis lock. Since I've been carrying it, I gained new respect for the design, and the knife as a whole, as EDC tool; It's slim, light, easy in the pocket, fast to deploy(or slow if you need 2 hands deployment in some situations), useful blade shape, easy to clean and maintain and look gorgeous.

But I went in knowing that I will also get a ZT in the not so distant future.
