I'm looking into buying my first ZT (non assisted). I've been looking into buying one for about six months now. If anyone could give me some insight and some of their experiences with their ZT's. It would be greatly appreciated.

If a framelock flipper with bearings is what you want, they are pretty much the gold standard. They have everything dialed in, and their customer service and warranty are top notch. A good starting point for an EDC is the 0562/0562CF.

^^^^^ Nuff said right there!
I'd add one more suggestion, deal with one of the great dealers here. You'll get exactly what you want, with the best personal customer service possible.
Check out USAmadeblade. Scott anodizes ZTs.....no charge.
Great dealer!
Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll check it out.

What sort of parameters are looking at in terms of weight, blade length, handle material, blade steel, general profile, etc.?

ZT0562, great flipping action, nice design and good steel. Fits better large hand than medium IMO

ZT0801, best flipper I have experienced at ZT, still available in Elmax and recently reintroduced with s35v and a more appealing design. Good ergos but on the heavy side

ZT0459, great action. Exist in different configuration. Light for a good blade shape. IMO very close to a BM940

Hard to know where to start. My favorite edc is a zt0450cf. Favorite 'tactical/self defense' is a zt0620 or 452cf. Favorite one to play around with is a zt0560bw.
Any model is a winner though. I have never ran into one i didnt like in terms of function or craftsmanship. Whatever size, price, weight, looks you like the best would be the one to get.
Me personally, i still think the zt0452cf is one of the best looking production knives out there period. And the 0450cf is one my favorite folders. It would be in my top 5 folders that ive owned.

ZT0562 for the win, Hinderer design in a tiny tad thinner package. Great ergos. Strong tip. Very slick knife (i reserve smoothness for washer knives).
May or may not experience break-in in the first week or two.
And I got that ss my first ZT!

What size/weight/dimensions are you looking for, and what do you plan to do with the knife? My husband adores his 0452CF, but that's a 4" blade and lol feels like your flicking out a sword when you press that tab. :P

I'm a big fan of ZT's, with the 0456 being my latest acquisition. For someone just starting out though, depending on hand size and what you want/need, I'd go with either the 0562 mentioned above if your hands are larger (or you just like beefier knives), or the 0450 if you have smaller/medium hands (or are looking for a "gentleman's" type folder that is light and easily concealed). Both are excellent flippers with great construction, but it all depends on what you are looking for. ZT has a knife for everyone and, because they generally don't embellish much from the factory, you're free to make them "yours" by customizing anodizing, clips etc. ;)

I have large size hands, so I like having enough handle but I don't like blades longer than 3.75". Weight isn't a problem really, nothing heavier than 6.5 ounces. But I definitely want a ball bearing pivot.

ZT makes knives for First Responders as well as for the rest of us. I have owned many models of the brand and they are highly respected by many users. My recommendations: choose a model that fits your life-style, primary use, and choice of blade-steel.
Don't buy a "heavier" knife that fits your comfort level. For me, the max weight is 5 ounces or less. For office carry, you might be happier with 3-4 ounces so that your dress pants aren't dragged down. A blade-length of 3.25"-3.5" and a closed grip-length of 4.3" (minimum) is about right. Your hand size here must be considered, as a closed-length of 4.0" or less cannot be easily manipulated with large hands.
I would reco that you purchase from one of our Bladeforum supporting dealers. If you buy a new knife and it doesn't fit your hand...i.e. too large, too heavy...you can send it back for a refund or a model exchange.

I say grab whichever design sings to you and you can't really go wrong. My current favorite is the 0095

Another recommendation for the 0562CF here. It's just a spectacular blade.
If you want to go smaller the 0450 and 0770CF are also great.
