Zing vs. Skyline

I have both of them, I like them both. The one thing that separates them is the Skyline has two places to put the clip on the right side. The Zing has two on the right and one on the left.

The grooves on the Zing might get filled with Gunk. Good point. Like if you cut a block of cheese for example.

I agree with those who said the grooves are not a problem. Just cut cheese and salami at the ball game on Sunday with my Zing and it wipes right out, no problem:thumbup:

Okay, I'm probably gonna lose my membership card, but I'm gonna tell you guys a secret. Kershaw's "bang for your buck" is darn near a linear curve without many exceptions. If you compare two in different price ranges, unless price is your primary focus, get the knife that costs a bit more, and the specs will match up most of the time.

The Skyline is an AWESOME working knife. I bought 7-10 knives for my "Machine Shop Foreman" brother-in-law (Spydercos, Kershaws, Benchmades) and of all the options, he loves the two cheap knives. The Skyline and Oso Sweet (more on that later).

The Zing opens super fast, fills the hand, and has a higher CDI (chicks dig it) factor. It's a nice knife, good design, nothing to dislike imho.

If you want a Zing sized assisted opener that is a tidy package AND dirt cheap, check out the Oso Sweet...it DOES have a softer blade, however, it is super super easy to sharpen.

Get the Zing. Buy the other two when you have a few bucks to burn, they are cheap and good workers.

I have them both and my vote goes for the Skyline.

Its light and carries nicely, the blade shape is perfect for just about everything your going to need from an EDC.

The G10 feels good and the steel performs very nicely.

My 2 zings both had lockup problems, while the skyline has locked up perfectly for the last 9 or so months.

I am on the fence about these 2 as well i am looking at the Damascus versions of both .. they removed the grooves on the zing.. one thing i noticed is that the zing is a little thicker and as a pocket wearer i think the skylines lower weight and slimmer profile might win...i also like the blade shape on the skyline..

I have a Orange Zing & a Skyline & prefer the Skyline. For me the ergonomics are better.

Anyone noticed how hard it is to find a Damascus Skyline? Even the newer Skyline with Sandvik 14C28N is harder to find than the older one with Sandvik 13C26.

I would pick the Skyline. I prefer the ergonomics on it, the blade shape is awesome and it is nice and light. I do wish it was assisted opening like the Leek though, but for the price, it is an excellent lightweight EDC knife. That is why I got one.

I just don't care for the groove design on the Zing. That is just personal taste though and the knife is quite functional.

ZING, I own a black and orange 3d zing, and a tanto version

The skyline was traded a week after purchase, not a fan of the handle

I've used both the Zings and the Skyline and love the Zing. To me the zing feels better built than the skyline and feels better in my hand..IMHO. I gave the Skyline away to a co-worker, who was very pleased, so win-win :D

I purchased an Orange Zing for my son last year for Christmas. Both of us really like the knife with one exception; The grooves in the blade tend to develop rust spots, and it's next to impossible to clean those spots off.

this is true i will probably pickup a skyline and maybe an asset sometime next year just to check build quality etc....

i have the skyline and the lahar, i love them both but usually i carry the skyline because the lahar is a bit bulky for EDC carry. the skyline is great, small knife with a relatively big blade, doesn't have an assist opening but the fliper design is pretty fast to deploy, i also like the design of the Zing, but i think the blade may not look very good after getting a lot of scratches from usage, so i may go with the Groove just for collection.

Hi thejamppa -

While both are very nice knives and either would be great for your intended purposes, I would go with the Skyline.

I like the shape and feel of the Skyline in hand, and I really did not care for the striations on the blade of the Zing.

They are very similar, but if I could have only one it would be the Skyline.

best regards -
