How durable are those Buck Hoodlums? I have heard that the notch on the spine weakens the blade quite a bit.

That is called a truckers friend, made by innovation. Its a hatchet, pry bar, hammer, tire chain hook and nail puller, about 20inches long. Handy to have in the back of my car for emergencies and zombies.
 
Amazon for 50 bucks. Its in my bag of emergency stuff in the back of my apocalypse rated fj.

Eddited to clarify, the knife is not 50 bucks from amazon I was referring to the truckers friend a few posts up.

a kurki for when it gets close and a proper katana sword, plug a 12 gauge, a pistol, a high powered long range rifle and something for that mid range ie semi auto
 
If we're going to get creative/silly then I choose this for a close in weapon.

Trying to cut through the top of the skull is not the best tactical move because it's well armored. Under the chin is far easier to bypass and go up into the brain. Or through the ear, or the eye, or the nose, or any other lower area. And some of those things you just can't do with a big, wide blade.
