In that case, get a spear. Works against lions.

A machete, even an 18 inch one, can be hung from your belt(or strapped over your back if you wanted to get off beat)-useful if you need to climb a ladder, or over a tall fence or something. Not so easy to do with a spear.

Lanyard it, or throw it over first. I'm disappointed Michonne in The Walking Dead uses a Jap sword instead of a Masai spear.

She's not a samurai, I think it was just in her house or nearby? In the real world, it would be some crappy 440A clone with the handle falling off.

For zombie killing you need a fairly light weapon with the ability to decapitate. Something with its weight forward for more momentum. It should be long enough to kill at arms reach but be sort enough for close quarters.

A machete style will work well. A lawnmower blade would be pretty cool and apocalypse "legit" I also think adding a spike to the back like an Orc sword would allow close quarter head taps that would pierce the skull. Something like this but thinner at back and wider at tip. And about 2/3 as long.

I just took delivery of a Miller Bros. Blades MBB M-10 drop point and also have one in what they call their cleaver point. If you are looking for a zombie killer knife take a look at them for inspiration.

Walking Dead zombie heads keep biting after decap. Best result with least effort & less chance of exhaustion, is brainstab thru eye with straight weapon; dagger, straight sword, spear. But considering the fragility of zombie bones, brainhitting with even a sharpened shovel is obviously also effective, just not as efficient.

So hows the idea of a "Rambo" (the later one) style knife with maybe a longer blade and different handle, Like a thinner, longer version of an OKC SP8 with wood handles like the ones in the picture above

For typical movie zombies? Choppy > stabby, every time.

You want something long, so you don't have to get close. You also want something with the mass concentrated behind the edge... that could mean either a thick blade or a wide machete-like blade. I would also want a pointy tip, because there's little reason not to have one and it could come in handy.

I think kukri style is the way to go. The thick and heavy blade could be lethal even with the blunt spine... combined with a sharp edge and a forward weight balance...

I'm not getting within 13" of anything with a taste for human flesh. Definitely a machete, at least 18", preferably bolo style with that more useable point.

Kinda funny, I just had a weird dream about zombies the other night, and I was definitely bashing skulls with a machete. I don't know where this came from, I'm no zombie nerd. I've never even seen Walking Dead. I should mention though that I got a little too brave and got bit...

A bolo does sound like a good way to go. Khukris are good looking too but I think he may already have one.

If I were in a zombie setting, i'd like to do some swingy chopping motions. Less stabbing, zombies don't care about stabbing. I say take this type of design and double the blade size. It would be similar to a khuk / machete / hawkbill. Good luck man, and that's a heck of a gift.
