I posted a thread last week how I am sold on Zero Tolerance. In fact I just ordered a 0350 to add to my 0200.

But I am starting to have a love hate relationship with the 0200. It IS one of my two favorite EDC knives, the other being my Spyderco Military. My hate is that the 0200 is wearing out my pants faster then any knife I have ever owned. It's like having a pit bull puppy in my pocket.

So is the 0200 rippin your shit up like a 80's death metal band?

Remove the clip and use either a padded scouring pad, magic eraser pad or high grit sandpaper and smooth over the entire surface evenly. Stop when you are happy with how it feels and it will be much easier on the pocket, yet still very grippy with the machined g10.

In a nut shell, simulate a few years worth of wear in a few minutes.

And yes, I love 80`s metal, lol.

If your worried about messing up your pretty little pockets, u shouldn't be carrying a ZT! Maybe a rape whistle in your man purse would be more suited. :D Just giving ya a hard time!

I carry my ZT 0200 in a (Leatherman Surge) nylon belt sheath...No wear on my pocket at-all.:).

Haha....:D

I was actually thinking of just buying more jeans.

BTW....It's murse.....not man purse. :p

You could switch out the pocket clip for one of Gavin Hawks' custom ZT clips. They're designed to let you release the clip before pulling the knife out of your pocket.

Here is one on my 0551 -

I haven't been using it long enough to know if it really reduces pocket shredding, though.

In addition to sanding down the area underneath the clip, you clould try bending the clip out just the smallest bit. it helps a lot.

You are not a knife nut unless every pair of jeans and shorts have shred marks on your strong side.

Damn near half of my collection eats my pockets in some way or another.

I can't live without 80's metal and yes, both my ZT 200 and 301 are eating my pockets. I'm thinking of having a leather belt sheath made.

Yeah, it's kind of like "U know your a ZT owner...when".

Looks like i'm carrying a pound of quarters in my pockets.

last night i sanded my 200 scales down and removed every bit of the 3d texture. sure wont be eating up my pockets now.

Nope. This is how I rate G10 in order from most aggressive to mildest:
Cold Steel super grippy, will not fall out of your pockets ever
Emerson again, very grippy, but has a finer texture and wears in over time
ZT/Spyderco has the perfect balance, not too aggressive, not too smooth.

My fear is not having enough texture on the G10 and losing a $200 folder. That would not be cool at all. That is the trade off for me, maybe your pants are weak? lol

I've never had that problem with the zt0200 Though I wear tac pants and not jeans.

I just loosen off the clip tension and it doesn't seem to bother my pockets too much.
If you're doing a lot of very active stuff, jumping and rolling or maybe hanging upside down, then I would keep the clip tight and smooth off the handle under the clip.

I remember thinking everyone was exaggerating this phenomenon. After all, I have a G10 Offset, Ti Bumps, two 0300s...and none ever caused me a problem.

But you're totally right. It's crazy how aggressive it is.

And it seems paradoxical too. Maybe Ken Onion can comment on this, but he developed a great little device something like 7-8 years ago in the Kershaw Avalanche that totally solved this. And it probably cost Kershaw $0.50 to make.

And yet, so far as I'm aware, it was never ever used again.

My friend has this exact problem with his 0200. It's a shame they didn't do a better design with the texture; they really didn't use the 3D machining to its full potential. My Spec Bump has a design on the 3D machining such that the G10 is grippy where you hold it but smooth where the pocket clip touches.

I think my Offset is like that too...
