ZT 0350 in ZDP189?

Interesting. Can't say I'll be getting one -- even aside from the fact that I'm not a fan of recurves, I prefer CPM-S30V to ZDP-189 for a general-use knife -- but I'm sure a lot of folks will enjoy this one.

Solid ZDP Blades, DLC Coating.

I'll have exact counts soon, but the PO called for 350 plain edge, 150 Combo's. We should be close to these #'s.

All are serialized.

Whoa! Awesome!

Did the blade stay at standard thickness, or are all the darksiders going to be fighting to get this one?

What's the hardness?
Seconded.

Definitely a golden question for a knife designed for hard use and ZDP's high carbide volume. Still kind of hoping for a run of knives with CPM-M4 or some other carbon tool steel to take advantage of that DLC coating.

That's the other thing that's kinda confusing, I know ZDP is a excellent steel but its far from tough. I guess you could say I'm surprised to see this steel in a ZT.

Yeah, exactly what I was getting at when I said I prefer S30V for a general use knife. I'm rather confused by this steel choice too.

Not worth the extra 90 dollars imo but a good option for some
You wouldn't have this opinion if you went through what it took to actually get the steel, paid the premium price for the ZDP, then had to process it.

I don't think he was saying that the price was unjustified/unreasonable, just that for him and his particular uses, spending the extra money to get the knife in ZDP-189 rather than CPM-S30V wouldn't be a good choice. We all know that you folks at KAI put out a lot of incredible knives with materials/technologies/features that nobody else in the industry comes even close to matching at the same price points (e.g., the Kershaw Volt, Speedform, and Tilt at street prices of $225 or less, the ZT 0551 at a street price of $200).

Ah yes, I find myself always responding from a factory point of view. From where I sit, the piece is undervalued.

Yes, though ZDP has properties that are better suited for a thin ground blade with a low edge angle, specifically due to the high hardness of Rc 65+(which means it can take a thin edge without rolling as often as softer steels). I would suggest working it into a Shun kitchen knife, but perhaps I'm just spoiled by my Miyabi 7000MC 8" Chef's Knife in ZDP-189:D.

A skyline in ZDP would also be interesting.

i thought that the company that makes ZDP189 didnt export it.

i guess the kershaw mafia did a good job of persuading them......
