I don't have one. Yet. But I learned that quite often if you keep your eyes open and don't set yourself up to "have-to-have-it-now" you can sometimes find a great deal. I'll get one, but not until I can find the right deal. I suspect that a person can still find one under $1000 if they take their time with looking.

I love the 0777. One of my favorite ZTs. I'll find one.... ;)

You can periodically find them for under $1,000...but it is generally quite a lot of work because there are buyers willing to pay significantly more.

The most I have seen one go for was about $4,500. As far as someone deciding they are willing to pay that much...I've wondered about it myself. Perhaps they are that loaded that they did not care about price and wanted the knife right then and there? I personally wouldn't drop that kind of money, but then again if I had a bank account with 8 or 9 figures, I suppose I wouldn't care quite as much and my outlook in general would be different. It's kind of like when I see BM 42's go for the better part of $1k. I suppose it is that people either are flat out loaded or do not want to wait to find the right deal. It took me about a year to find the right deal on my titanium/ZDP-189 Mini Cyclone...during that time, a few of them sold for well over double what I wound up paying. I dunno. I guess it's partly why the economy of ZTs fascinate me?
 
If it was a confirmed sale at $4500.00, that's crazy. The most I have seen one sell for was around $2200.00

Somebody really wanted that knife, and I can't blame them. If I was a multi-millionaire and started collecting knives, the 0777 would be at the top of my must-have list as the key piece that is completely different from anything else and has a level of uniqueness not normally associated with edged tools.

And I am right with you on the design...it floors me. Very few knives have had the beauty, functionality, creativity, originality, and finalized fit & finish of the original 0777 (the M390 version is awesome too, but the original's blade is just a work of art). People who are not knife people at all take one look and say, "wow, that is pretty!" The knife is an engineering, cosmetic, and functional work of art. KAI's work with composite blades had been totally awesome to that point (I love the 154CM/CPM-D2 Tyrade 1850)...but the mating of damascus and Vanax really pushed the envelope and there are no other knives I personally know of that have done anything like the 0777...? I was heartbroken when they stopped production.

I think they will keep going up too because it's not a knife any knife collector can sell easily given the uniqueness, even if the price/trade offering is great.
 
Looks like there is another 454 for sale with the person trying to claim only '100 or so' made.
