So I really want a 0454 to add to my ZT collection, didnt have the cash last week. So a good friend of mine offered me a trade today for his because he believes in using every knife he owns and cant bring his self to use 0454. He wants from me the following all NIB 0560, 0350BRN, and 0801CF. So I want some options if you would make this trade or not

0560's are common and used ones can be found for far cheaper than new, if you ever want to get a replacement.

You'd have to ask yourself how badly you want the 0454 over the other two LE knives that you would be trading away. With respect to historical cost, your friend would be winning out, but if you considering the higher end of what secondary market 0454's are going for, then it's even.

Out of the 3 the only knife I would want to replace would be the 0801CF and that shouldnt be hard

If it was just regular production pieces, I'd say "yes", as those can be more easily re-acquired. It's anyone's guess right now as to whether the 0454 or 0801CF will be more difficult to obtain down the road. I would guess the 0454, but that's entirely speculation. Tough call... FWIW, I am liking the 0454 more.

Only reason I say 0801CF will be easier to find later on because wasn't their around 700 of them made compared to like 282 of the 0454. At least thats numbers I heard being thrown around, ZT email said 272 were being sold plus the 10 at blade show

If it were me, I'd probably do it. Dunno about actual production counts or future secondary market availability... the dust hasn't even started to settle from the 0454 release yet. Given the choice between a 0454 or 0801CF right now, though, I'd take the 0454. But I'm still in the honeymoon period with the 0454, so my perspective may be a bit skewed. ;)

Thats what im scared of.....im scared im just so caught up in the hype that ill make poor decision. This is why I asked for opinions lol

Don't let the 801CF go. There will be more chances for you to score LE ZT knives down the line. That is my suggestion and opinion.

Personally, ZT 0454 is in the same league as ZT 0777 and ZT 0888 all with composite blades and superb handles. The other ZT LE fall into lower levels for me.

  1. 0454, 0777, 0888
  2. 0888MAX, 0888M390
  3. 0777M390, 0777M390BLK, 0777M390BW
  4. 0600, 0600BLK, 0560CBCF, 0801CF, 0801BRWCF
  5. Others like 0350CB, etc.

So, if you can get a 0454 now it'd cost you less than later. As for the deal do the math or come up with the money to buy a 0454 outright once the secondary market supplies are plentiful within the next couple of weeks.

Think of it this way. The combined actual value of your three knives your friend wants is in the $860 area. The 0454's on the secondary market are going generally between $900-$1000. So in thy sense you would kind of be getting a deal. On the other hand the actual price of the 0454 is $500. The real question is, is the exclusivity worth the extra money/knives? Would you be happier with the one 0450 or three "good" knives. Me, I wouldn't trade for or buy an 0454 at all. I'd keep my other three knives.

Nick, it's sitting here waiting on you lol... I'm the one he's wanting to trade.. He's the one that got me into this knife collecting and I could kill him because it's all I think about lol

To me that trade would = about $650-700 so yes it isn't a bad deal. I wouldn't take less than 1K for my 0454. That will be a cheap price for one in a year.

Seems like a good deal for you.
0560..$200
0350BRN...$150
0801CF...$450
$800 of your knives...The 454 is worth more than that and will in the future.
