ZT 0550 Update

What would be really sweet is some CPM-M4, has Kershaw ever used CPM-M4??? Wouldn't be a bad way to start ;)

I actually would prefer M390, which is about as close to stainless M4 as you could get. Also helps to avoid any black tacticool coatings:thumbup:.

Still, more appealing for a hard use knife would be DLC coated CPM-3V. I felt tempted by the ZT 0100, but it would be interesting to see it in a folder. Of course, that might be overkill on toughness if the current designs would make the handle more likely to fail than the blade.

this is a stellar knife...i think we are all just happy that ZT is making more of them. i like that youre using a US made premium steel. S35VN sounds amazing.

Thomas, i know Vanax 35 had nitrogen and was going to be super rust resistant. you mentioned that going to do tumble finished every 0550 blade. given the change in steel, do you think your going to offer a DLC coated S35VN blade as well as a stone washed finish?

The price would go up I am sure as M390 is not cheap and more expensive the ELMAX or S35VN and very complicated to HT and temper.

Kershaw made a good choice to go with S35VN.

It was the "you'll get it when it shows up" that got us quickly looking around for an alternative steel. :)

Ouch, that doesn't sound good on Uddeholm's part, I've gotta say. I wouldn't have held the steel change against you guys anyway (like I said, I'm just as happy at a shot at S35VN as I was with a shot at Vanax 35), but wow. I know it would probably be shooting myself in the foot somewhere like the knife world, but I'm pretty sure I would've written off dealing with them at all if I'd been told something like that. Especially since I'm sure you guys were given every reason to expect the steel soon enough to start drumming up the excitement when you did.

I guess that comes with the territory of trying to work with high-end/exotic steels, though...

Yup, stonewash for this guy too . . . It's often said a stonewashed finish is the best at blending away use marks on a blade. I agree.

I definitely am much more likely to be getting one of these with the two new changes, steel (been wanting to try s35vn) and stonewash:thumbup: How does edge retention compare between the three, S35VN, ELMAX, and Vanax35?

So this probably will have no effect on the waiting list I am on for the 0551? That is my concern in the here and now... Boy am I itchy for that knife... Russ

So to confirm, the price will remain at around $200, right? That's the latest price I could find on the other ZT 0550 thread.

And I agree on the stonewash. It looks good, and you really can't see scratches on the blade

I believe Thomas confirmed the price will remain the same.
