Zt 0550

I really like mine. I was prepared to hate the scale after reading so many complaints about it, but I like it just fine.

I don't hate the scale. I don't think it does the knife justice, though. I have a Kryptoglow on the way. I really wish the Hinderer scales were still available. My choice would be one of them, probably in FDE.

I had my concerns over the scale too but I like it as is. The scale has great traction and feels good in the hand. I'm sure an aftermarket might make it feel just a bit more contoured but I don't plan on changing anything on this one, at least for the time being. Of course, aftermarket scales look awesome.

The scale feels fine. It's more about cosmetics for me. Cosmetically, this is probably my favorite out of my ZT knives... except for the scale.

The scale doesn't photograph well at all. It actually looks kind of cheap in pictures. I think it looks pretty good in person though. That being said I wouldn't mind having a custom CF scale.

Yes and yes, I agree completely! In person it looks so much better but those CF scales do look incredible.

Yep. It looks a lot more tolerable in person. At this point, I'm not itching to change it, even though I have a scale ordered. I'm going to wait and see. With all that said, I would change to a Hinderer scale in a heartbeat. That's just not a reality right now.

Seriously, you dudes are making me jealous! I need to save up and get one of those. I have a decent amount of Kershaws, but I think it's time I try out a ZT.

Hey fellas, I just got my first 0550 in the mail today. Great knife.

I was skeptical about the factory scales at first too, because they photograph so badly. They do provide excellent traction though, I just need to get my thumb on the top of the scale and the blade shoots out of my pocket.

I even got a relatively high serial number, 6230, and apart from a slightly off center blade that was cured by a gentle turn of the pivot... I have zero complaints whatsoever.

I was even fortunate enough to handle an 0561 right along side the 0550. The 0550 is a beast of it's own, nicely weighted with good sizing for folks with med-large hands. All this and it still kind of disappears in your pocket.

To the OP....

Do it, do it.

I've been playing with my 550, 561, and 200 all day. The 550 is great. I even carried it a little today

Here's my 0550 with some stainless steel screws that I stole from some Kershaw parts kits. My plan is to modify the three handle screws on that side as well.

It's a stout little blade. Locks up like a tank and, I know I am going to draw some scorn for this, it feels better in my hand than the 0560. Fit and finish it well above expected for a knife in this price range.

The only negative thing about mine is that it's currently missing. If anyone sees it, can you tell it it's past it's bedtime and that it needs to come home now?

I got mine used and so it had some scratches and things on the blade. That also meant that it was broken in nicely. My thumb flicking technique practiced on my Zing sent that blade flying out in no time. The biggest cutting job I sent it up against was to modify a speaker housing. I was sitting there for a bit sawing back and forth on the hard plastic. It did dull but even with my meager sharpening skills, I was able to bring it back. I don't think a lesser knife would have done even that well (If, for example, I had tried an 8Cr import)

Well, I ordered one last night, and should have it in hand on Monday or so. I am pretty excited, and will keep you guys updated. Thanks for all of the input.
