Zt 0550

Welp, I just got my package in the mail. This thing is a beast! I am really glad I got it. Thanks guys for all of the input.
The action is a bit stiff, which I'm sure will loosen up over time.

I bought from Dave, and that too was not a mistake. He shipped it fast, I got it fast, and he was quick on the communication, when I had one question. What's not to like?!?!

Congrats on your new 0550! Mine just arrived today as well and I am really impressed with this knife. It is a tank of a knife that feels wonderful in my hand. Well done ZT!

Work the detent a bunch of times. It got smooth for me in no time. I stick my thumb nail under the stud to deploy it. Deploys faster than my 0561, and doesn't require any wrist English. Right now, I'm carrying the 0550, and the other ZT's are in the safe.

I found (for me) that I grip the lock bar hard with my index finger when I initially started playing with mine. This would increase the pressure on the detent. Now I place my thumb on the G10 side thumb stud and my index finger on the locking side thumb stud when opening (right handed). Pushing out with both and once the detent breaks just use my thumb to guide the blade into the locked position. I don't flick open frame lock knives so I just open it smoothly. It does open differently than a lot of my other knives. You'll eventually find what works for you and you will really enjoy the knife. It has a super smooth pivot.

I was doing that with my Sebenza 25 until I got the thumb nail trick. I still don't flick it open. Best I can tell, the 550 was made to deploy fast, just like the 560 and the real Hinderers. Because of the stiff detent and the smooth pivot on the 550, it's gonna fly open if you don't hold it back. The good news... it has real beefy blade stops.

I was about to say that I do that with my Sebenza 25 as well. I still do. I do find that the 0550 is a bit trickier to control the blade, but I'm use to it now. It just works for me I guess.

I do note that if you do flick the 0550 it really flies open. Makes my 0350 look like slow motion.

I have been playing with it, and it is getting "broken in" a bit. It's getting much easier. I wasn't scared or anything, sorry if I conveyed that. I seriously dig this knife. I will be buying more. Thanks again guys.

CR discourages fast deployment. These Hinderer designs are made for it. My Sebenza is also living in the safe right now.

Mine got smooth in a couple of hours. Just had to knock the hair off the detent.

Nice 550s. Have been thinking about getting one for my nephew who is just finishing firefighter/rescue training. He'd love it.

There are certain knives I sell and then miss so much I buy another one later. Insingo Sebenzas, and ZT0550s. I've had and sold a few 0550s, but I currently have 2. The 0550blk I recently bought is SUPER smooth and rock solid.

I just got a polished carbon fiber scale from Don at Gator Scales. Already stuck it on the knife. It's plumb sexy now. Pics when I get around to it.
