Hey guys. Just ordered a 0561. When I called bladehq the lady on the phone was kind enough to check the knife and informed me that it would not come with the new style lock bar insert. Is it really necessary? Would it be something I'd want to cancel the order over?

Huh, my 0561 came with it. It must be either:

Old stock or she didn't know what she was talking about.

I'm guessing the former, as these were discontinued a while ago, and so they are trying to get rid of them (hence the greatly reduced price)

Ah. I called knifeart as well and they also said they didn't have the insert. I won't pay over the 210 I got it for anyways, so I guess I'll just have to live with it. Hopefully I get no issues!

I think you'll be fine. I have both versions and the lock face of my old style is beat up but it still locks solid.

They made some other changes too. I'm not 100% sure I like the new version.

We also do not have any 560s with the lockbar insert. Have never had one either. I don't think they made many with it before they discontinued them!

Oh so it wasn't an ongoing version, it was more of a "well throw some on the last batch or two we produce" type of thing? So they're scattered here and there? I can deal with that lol. I personally think the screw in the lock bar is ugly, but from a functional standpoint I understand what it's there for.

Best up like it moved across the tang a ton, or did the blade tang just make marks in it?

I believe it was only the latest generation (manufactured sometime in 2014) that had the steel lockbar inserts. It is a nice little incremental update, but I don't think it's a make or break deal. The lock stick that some people experience will eventually go away with regular use. In the meantime, there's always the pencil or sharpie trick (just mark up the lock face on the blade tang, and it'll help alleviate the lock stick while it wears in).

There are thousands out there without the insert, and most have no problems. Some have reported the sticky lock bar, but mine is still smooth. And it has a LOT of openings/closings. ....crazy ocd

I'll deal with it. I've already been thinking about the graphite trick. I did it on my spyderco military. For 210$ shipped I won't complain too much.

I have the older 0561 without the steel insert on the lock bar. The lock was sticky so I bent the lock bar slightly and adjusted the lock bar stop and it's been great. No more stick and there's no blade play in either direction. I have about 60% to 70% lockup.

I've suffered the nausea induced by having a knife fall accidentally (praying as I picked it up that the tip was intact, cursing myself for carelessness if it wasn't) enough that I cannot imagine doing it on purpose.

I had inquired with Blade HQ prior to Christmas and got the same reply,
no insert.
I picked up an 801.

I don't want to hijack your thread, but when was the 0560 discontinued? It is still listed on the ZT website.

My 0561 has the lock bar insert, as I ordered mine right when it was announced it would be discontinued. I agree that the screw on the insert is ugly.

I recently received a 560 with the lock bar insert at a price that I could not resist. I ordered another one as soon as I heard they were discontinued. So far they're great. The screw for the insert really doesn't bug me.
