~~~ZT 0562CF & 0620CF now only in Carpenter CTS-204P
Just bought a 0562CF with the 204P blade from Scott at USA Made Blade. Can't wait to get my hands on it. Been waiting well over a year to get one.
The price on the secondary market is going to go up on the M390s with flippers charging insane amounts as usual!
Sorry to revive a dead thread but I searched m390 vs 204p because I just saw a guy post a m390 0562cf on a Facebook page for $290 and that's in lightly used condition. Pretty ridiculous if you ask me considering they're basically the same steel and according to some people who've used both, 204p is slightly superior. I had to post after seeing that on Facebook then reading your comment because it made me LOL :D
I was lucky enough to find mine in m390 😁
I had a 566CF in M390.
ZT used a great blade-steel in the special M390 offering, but the econo-grip with stainless steel scale and liner...instead of titanium...made it too heavy for me to handle well. My own fault...was very sorry to see it go..
Thanks to RamZar for his posting of the steel comparison chart. It really brings these steels into focus.
ZT now has several limited editions in m390... any reason why they switched again?
examples
ZT 801brz
ZT 0566CFM390
ZT 0620CFM390
ZT 0630CFM390
ZT 0452CFm390blu
is 204p limited supply now?
They have been trying to get more M390 for a while now, it's likely that they finally got some in. Blade Steel used in knives is a very, very small part of what steel companies produce. With that in mind, it's understandable why some steel can be difficult to get at times.
ZT will continue to switch back and forth between steels based on what's available.
The recent ZT limited runs with M390 are exactly that. Quantities are small. It's possible that ZT had some limited stash of M390 or obtained a limited amount. Time will tell if any production models will have M390 instead of CTS-204P like 0562CF, 0804CF and 0456.
Within the past month ZT has released three limited run models in M390 (before that it has been a long time since a model had M390):
  1. 0452CFM390BLU
  2. 0801BRZ
  3. 0630CF
CTS-204P is a truly excellent steel. It has become one of my top steel choices. Superb edge holding and outstanding corrosion resistance.
My edc for the last month has been my Military 204P and I couldn't be happier with it.
