I realize this thread is a few months old, but I felt it was relevant since I am experiencing the same thing. A week ago, I ordered the 0566 from Amazon and I love the build quality of the knife, and even the heft of it, but it is soooo hard to open with the flipper. I researched this quite a bit and I made sure that I wasn't putting pressure on the clip or the frame lock when I was trying to open it, but it was still very difficult. It makes my finger feel bruised after flipping the blade out a few times. Even after 200+ deployments of the blade, it didn't seem to loosen up at all. I googled for possible solutions and one was to loosen the pivot just a hair and add a drop or two of knife/gun oil. I loosened the pivot just a bit and added a couple drops of Benchmade Bluelube, but it didn't seem to help. I sent it back to ZT on Sunday, so I'm hoping they can find what's wrong or adjust it so it's easier to open. If it comes back the same way, I may try deassisting it, because I don't want a knife that difficult to open as my main EDC knife.
Is it really that much smoother to open if the knife is deassisted? I've read both positive and negative experiences with this. Some said that it made the knife much easier to open and others said it actually made it harder to open. I'm not sure if that's due to variances in build quality of the knives, or the experience of the person putting it back together. Some people have also said that they have the torsion bar installed and their 0566 opens up smoothly. I'm thinking that either something is different on theirs, or we have different ideas of what smoothly means (maybe they have iron fingers?). Either way, it will now be a waiting game until ZT gets the knife and looks at it. The UPS tracking shows it won't even be delivered to them until Friday. *sigh*
