So I'm getting ready to order myself a Christmas present. Is there any reason that I shouldn't make it a ZT 566? I think this would be the perfect EDC for me. I really love the Kershaw Cryo, but I want a larger MIA version. The 566 seems to be exactly this, but I thought I'd ask before I spent the money. Thanks for the advice in advance!

I can't think of any. It's my favorite out of all the ZT's I've had. I have the CF version though.

The ZT 0566 is an awesome knife. There are a few versions to choose from too. The blackwash one should look pretty awesome (haven't seen one personally, but I've really liked the look of every other blackwash knife I have handled). There's also one with a carbon fiber scale instead of G10. Regardless of which one you pick, you can't go wrong.

The blade steel is the only thing I'm slightly concerned about. I've really only used 154CM and S30v heavily as EDCs. Does the 566 hold up to these?

I have ZT's in S30v, Elmax, and M390. All 3 are excellent steels.. My 566 is one of my favorite EDC's.

..

I believe all the 0566 variants use Elmax, which is a fantastic steel. Takes and retains a great edge, very corrosion resistant, very tough, and easy to maintain. From an edge-retention point of view, Ankerson's rope cutting tests have Elmax above both S30V and 154CM.

I think that's an excellent idea. I actually bought and reviewed a Cryo G10 (on my non-Blade Forums blog) because the ZT0566 was out of my price range at the time, and my biggest complaint about the Cryo G10 was that it needed just a little more blade. I think the ZT 566 is a nearly ideal knife (based on design and inference from the Cryo, I've not handled one). When I could afford more I ended up getting a Fantoni HB02 that I am thrilled with, but that is close to twice as expensive as the ZT 566 and I really made my choice based on my rather monomaniacal attitude toward very specific design features. I'm sure I would have been thrilled with the ZT 566.

I loved mine so much that I ended up getting a blackwash one too. The Elmax is great. Go ahead and request a few torsion bars from ZT right off the back. You will break them. I ended up de-assisting my blackwash one and have flipped it so much that I like it that way better. They just get smoother with use.

I just picked up a G10 0566 here on the sales forum, and really like it. I have the 0561 which is its larger brother, so I am used to bigger knives. This one just disappears in my pocket, and is super easy for EDC. No worries on the Elmax, as it is a great blade steel.

Can not think of a single reason not to order one! Great knife!

Ayyyyy! I got one for xmas too! A 566 in blackwash however I really want to replace the black scale with a wood scale and dark strait grains of some kind.

I bought a second stonewashed 566 to compare with the one I deassisted.

I still prefer deassisted but also like the stock version.

The newer 562 may be ZT's best flipper but the 566 is a much more practical size, IMO.

I just got a zt0566cf last week and I love it!
Deasisted and modified the liner to accept larger washers.
Was a great knife before. Is even better now.
Best bang for your buck ZT right now IMO.
I have a 0562 coming in a trade and I look forward to comparing them. Especially once I've modded the scale side and added new hardware.

I have had a 566 for about 6 months and it holds a great edge and it is a solid knife. I hope you picked it up.

Elmax is a better steel then either of those, not that you would be able to tell the difference...not sure why you would be concerned

My first and only ZT (so far), and I am a fan. It's a little heavier than most of my knives, but nothing to complain about. It's a good worker and not a bad looker either. Elmax is a very nice steel and I'd take it over S30V and 154CM any day.

I went ahead and ordered one. Should be here in a few days. Looking forward to getting it in.

You will love it, mine kicked my 940-1 out of my pocket and into another members mailbox.
Easily customized and self-modded.
And like I said mine is deasisted with a flush washer cavity I can use .505 washers.
Zero play and now the blade just glides out with a push.
Makes for a totally different feeling knife to me, better even.

I really like my 0566. The elmax steel is great. The only thing I don't like is how thick the blade is behind the edge. If you want a good slicer, you might want to consider another knife. That's why I'm currently carrying a pm2.
