The ZT 0777-M390 is certainly as good as some $500-$550 knives I have: CRK Sebenza, Wilson Combat (Les George) Eagle and Strider SNG-GG. So, on that basis I'm not doubting its worth at MSRP ($450).
All I'm saying is that I've seen prices anywhere from $360 to $485 from ZT dealers and much higher on the BF Exchange & the big auction site.
Just to be clear, my intention was not to be a dick - it's just to make sure we understand the difference between actual value and what people are willing to pay. I do the same thing all the time - I look for the best deal I can find and get mad if I don't get a deal. I've had it nearly ruin a purchase for me before.
My goal is almost always to get the most value for the least money. Sometimes you get lucky and find a deal. Sometimes you just have to pony up and pay a little more than you want. The nice thing is that the price of this knife came down 25% (that's a LOT) because the blade steel changed. I think the big price drop also had a bit to do with how behind schedule these knives were. As a result, you're getting a great deal, even at full MSRP. Even the original damascus version of the 0777 was underpriced.
My underlying point is that this knife was always a good value. People may be used to ZT's that cost $140 - $300, but this knife is much more complicated than the average production knife. Look at what other knife companies charge for special knives like this - you'll see prices closer to the $800 - $1000 range. Seeing these go for $360 almost makes me cry. I'm happy that more people can afford them, but, in the long run, it cheapens our brand. And as a result, more people will keep saying dumb things like, "A ZT knife ain't worth $600!! They're cheap knives!!"
