ZT 0850 Appreciation Thread

Well, just in time for Fathers Day. I almost let the opinions of those who dislike the styling cues dissuade me from picking one up. I'm glad I went ahead with the purchase!

As I stated somewhere above, IMO the 6-shooter cues are much more subdued in person than in press photos. Someone not paying attention might not even notice. I kinda like blades with a bit of eccentricity sometimes, and the cues work for me anyway.

I like solid feeling blades this size, but dislike their weight. This knife fixes the weight issue and feels great in my hand. I see myself carrying and using the heck out of this knife.

I certainly can appreciate why this knife doesn't appeal to some. But I think if folks are making up their mind from photos and from others' opinions, they may be judging rashly.

I love that there are "different grinds for different kinds."

I like it and hate it. Too thick behind the edge, terrible back spacer, pivot and thumb studs. They say it's blue carbon fiber but the blue isn't carbon at all its a composite still just not full cf. The gun theme is yuk very bad. The screws screw into aluminum yuk. It's way over priced.

Other than that the action is amazing though mine came with a loose detent that rattles and doesn't stay closed when shook lightly.

The thumbstud is the worst for user function. Love to finger flick this knife. To me its the only way to open it. Was difficult to do until it worn in.

The steel is great. It carries in the pocket well. Came razer sharp and 20cv doesn't go dull. Was able to raise a burr easy with diamond paste strop. It's not a slicer at all, but cuts things fine.

The ergos are nice. No Hotspots in my hands. Easy to disengage. Overall I'm glad I got it but now I need some aftermarket parts to replace the thumbstud, back spacer and pivot screw.

I've seen these go in the exchange for way less then the street price and recommend not paying street price for one since these are common in the exchange for what they should be going for.

Great knife albeit thick behind the edge. It's on sale at KC and feel it's a hell of a knife at this price.

Underrated gem. The wheelgunners gentleman's knife. Its what I carry at social functions so that I dont have to worry with the audible thwack of a flipper.

^^ Agreed!! Whenever I end up carrying my S&W Snubby....the 0850 ends up I the pocket with me:)

They’re on sale now because they’re being discontinued! I believe the price is $230 instead of the $320?.... but honestly I’m more excited about the 0920 price drop, $240 to $190 or so. The 0920 is next on my list, since I’m a big fan of the 0909 and the 0200

Most of them are except the 0562 I believe....I know my 0452, 0804 and 0462 are....

I wish the ZT 920 didn’t have that recurve. I agree with the previous post - the ZT850 is a great option for a large EDC that is also light weight. I was thinking about selling mine in favor of something a little more seemingly durable like the 562. However this 850 knife has grown on me. I like the edge geometry better than my Chris Reeve large Inkosi (which I like a lot). Maybe some are thicker behind the edge than others.

Bought one because I liked its looks and got a good price on it. The light, flickable detent on this big knife was an added bonus. :)

Ordered this model and the 0055 after seeing the price drop on both. I knew i’d Kick myself for not picking up a 850 after it went out of production. The price drop is a bonus. Sweet knife, albeit “in your face”, but i’m Ok with that.

0562 is solid carbon fiber.
Not according to the videos I’ve seen (on the ZT Website). Never actually owned one, but I know the regular, orange/black and black have steel liners. I watched the video on zt’s website and it looks like it has a steel liner....might be solid but it looks like it has some steel behind it....?

It has a steel liner. The cf is solid cf though. Not like some Spyderco models which have a thin piece of cf lamited ontop of g10.

I think this is what Jill thought you were referring to when you were talking about “solid cf.” What you’re describing is “linerless cf on the show side,” which is something I greatly prefer.

If a company is going to use a liner I’d like it to be titanium, preferably skeletonized. ZT uses unskeletonized steel for many of its liners (including the 562) which I don’t love. If they must use steel liners I wish they would skeletonize them.
