ZT 0850 Appreciation Thread

The action on my 0850 is confusingly smooth for a knife that's running on washers. Even with the pivot tight enough that there's no objectionable side to side play the knife is casually middle-finger flickable and it falls shut like it's on bearings.

It's super comfy in hand, I love the blade shape (at least the cutting part, the spine is a bit odd) and the weight is perfect for my tastes. Too bad about it being thick behind the edge, though because it really is kind of chunky.
 
Can people sound off here a bit more on the detent? Is it really loose, can you shake open the knife easily? I prefer a stiffer detent.
 
Mine will shake open. That said, the detent is strong enough that I don’t worry about it opening in pocket. It has a great flicking action, so I suspect the shake-open is largely due to the relatively heavy blade.

Hopefully others will chime in with their experience.
 
FWIW, I can not shake mine open. While the detent isn't super tight, it is strong enough to snap the blade in securely and I'm not worried about it opening unexpectedly. My lockup is solid at about 30% and it withstands a spinewack on my computer desk without a problem:-)
 
I am sure it can be shaken open if you try hard. I read somewhere here on this site that a guy can shake open all his locking folders. I did not believe and went ahead try mine. To my surprise, the 5 or 6 that I tried, including a Spyderco Manix 2 and PM2, could all be shaken open.

I am not saying this is anything bad, BTW.
 
Yeah I can shake open a lot of my knives. Just prefer it to be hard to do.

Ones I can't: WE Minitor, Berg Blades Iron Wolf, Liong Mah Eraser (new model).
 
I paid $320 for my 0850 and was not disappointed, and at $230, this knife is a steal. I can't think of another knife in that price range that rivals this ZT.

They're apparently kind of hit and miss. I've had 2 and the detent was perfect on both. Took a lot of force to shake open, but not so much that it made using the thumb stud difficult. A buddy of mine has one so soft that it opens with just about any shake though. It opened in his pocket and ruined a pair of work pants(not his leg thankfully.)

Easily my favorite production knife.
 
I find that if I give it a quick swing it will come open. So yes I guess you can shake it open. But this is more force than what I would call shaking, so much so that it would need to be intended force.

Agree this is one of my favorite knives. great feel in the hand and I love the way it looks.

Well, mine came today and it has a super soft detent. Could shake open with just a very light shake. Love the knife otherwise, but this one is going back. Dang!
