ZT 2018 LINEUP

I may be warming up to the 609 a little bit, especially price considered. The handle ergos and the pocket clip will probably end up being the deciding factors on that one.

There’s been many times I handled my 0801 and thought, “Wouldn’t this be greater at 3/4 scale.” Likewise with the 0900, “Wouldn’t this be greater if 25% larger?” Here’s to hoping the 0609 scratches those itches.

If the milling and finger grooves feel good in the hand, it could be a good one. I do hate that pocked clip though. Looks very out of place.

ZT released 3 new models at shot show 2018 (listed on their website now). The ZT 0609, 0393 and 0462. I'm happy that you're excited for ordering a new knife however, if I'm honest I'm extremely disappointing in the ZT models for the second straight year and I will not be ordering any of them. It's becoming hard to call ZT my favourite company when all their new models frankly are an abomination and probably 2012 ZT would immensely anathema 2018 ZT.

Prices seem competitive but I dunno, I’m just bored with these designs. I feel like the Chinese collabs with designers are more interesting nowadays.
Also had rust on my zt and my friend did as well so eh. They should have used titanium liner if they are using a titanium scale. Just seemed like cheap cost cutting.
Last year I was interested in the zt055 when they announced but it took so long that I lost interest and forfeit my preorder deposit. I hope not the same this year.

They should? Hinderer has titanium liners. The question is: are you willing to pay the price?

Titanium lock side, steel liner under cf scale, cpm 20cv on ZT 0562cf for $240. I am perfectly happy with it.

Let's not derail this thread of discussing ZT 2018 lineup into something else. A few rust spot on the liner side facing the g10 or cf scale are nothing for me to be concerned with.

Yes, let's keep the topic on the 2018 lineup, here are some of my honest thoughts... I'm extremely disappointing in the ZT models for the second straight year and I will not be ordering any of them. If a heavily textured full ti framelock in CPM 20CV isnt up to hard use then what is? I for one am glad they're moving away from the overbuilt fad.

Well, to be honest it was what made them what they are. You're glad that they're moving towards man jewelry like 99.999% of American and Chinese companies? I personally think these new age knives have zero personality. Flashy art pieces to sit in a case. This is the new fad.

Shocking indeed that they didn't continue making the same knives year after year, after year... I have quite a few ZT's, but didn't buy any of the 2017 models. That said, there was something new in every category, from seriously robust to more innovative and avant garde. I like the 609, but don't have any interest in the other two. I'm also quite sure that there will be other new models introduced during the course of the year. I find it interesting that no other large production knife company takes the crap that ZT does over its releases. I guess that comes with being so great for so long. The expectations are higher.

The red on the CF scale of the 462 must be pretty subtle because it sure looks black on the ZT and BHQ websites. Anyone got any experience with this colored carbon fiber that ZT uses. I wish it were bigger.

Zero Tolerance normally doesn't release new models mid year normally, just sprint runs. The sad part is, with my currently ZT collection I can't even think of any limited edition/spring runs they could come out when I want to buy. The reason I think ZT gets more flak is because they release less models that competitors (look at how many models BM releases) and they discontinue models more often. Thus, more likely that the highly liked models(0301,0560) are discontinued and replaced with models that are extremely different. One of the thing that bothers me this year is that unlike many 2017 models and the 0462 which IMO are just bad designs & knife art, the 0609 and 0393 have good potential, but by the overly colourful/"artsy" finish to them ruins them as a hard use/practical knife. Why couldn't the 0393 just be black DLC coated frame, OD Green G10, and a DLC coated blade or blackwash?

Looks pretty red to me. Not sure what to tell you . I really like the direction ZT is going. I get what they are doing with releasing throughout the year....... it’s great marketing. Only release a few and let them sell, and then release more later

I know the answer, but you aren't going to like it! They make what sells and discontinue what doesn't. As long as there is a good selection across the brand in terms of blade shapes, handle material, size, etc., I've got no complaints. (Keep an eye out for new models during the year - you may be pleasantly surprised).

The 0609 is the only one that catches my eye, but it kinda reminds me of a crkt wrinkle for some reason. I like the weight, the fact that the blade thickness is reasonable, and the blade shape in general—to me it looks like it would be a good knife.

Also I’m glad to see more manual flippers from Kershaw. If it’s done properly, it’s a huge step up from speedsafe in my mind.

I wonder if the dual tool fits the 0606? Somehow I doubt it.

Thanks for posting the video, I could finally see the red on the 462.

Their recently discontinued 0909 by Les George was a fantastic heavy duty user. That knife won me over so well that I picked up a bunch at the $99 close out price for gifts. I might try the new 0609 as a potential "church knife" for when the workhorse 0909 seems out of place. One advantage it has over the 0909 is that they shortened it up just enough to make it Nebraska legal so no worries when crossing the Missouri.

edited: looks like they combined two threads and this response is now a bit out of place since the other posts are not immediately preceding.

Agreed! Hoping the 0609 will be like a slightly downsized 0909 that is "refined" enough for use in more non-work environments. Plus it is legal in 3.5" jurisdictions. But on the farm the 0909 would be tough to beat.
