ZT 392 craze over? Did the Zero Tolerance 0392PURBLKWC flop?

Seriously? Zt has a ton of other knives on offer which might be at least as attractive and cheaper. And also they sort of ruined it for themselves when bringing out tons of such pseudo limited editions.

Part of the added price of the 0392 series is all the titanium anodized hardware made by Hinderer. I tallied it up and that by itself is about $157 worth!

  • Titanium Pivot Screw: $20.00
  • Titanium Lockbar Stabilizer: $10.00
  • Titanium Handle Screws: $42.00
  • Titanium Standoffs: $25.00
  • Titanium One Hole Filler Tab: $15.00
  • Titanium clip: $45.00

Of course, to replace the G-10 on a Hinderer Eklipse with titanium is another $200.

You first have to assume that the Hinderer hardware are worth the sticker price. They certainly are to some people, but then it just explains why the market for Hinderer hardware in an otherwise production knife is becoming saturated with so many 0392 out there. I certainly don't want a ZT limited edition because $150 of the value comes from Hinderer hardware. The Hinderer hardware are just not worth that much to me, or the ordinary crowd, I would think. $150 buys you a brand new K-2 or 0450....

I can't wait for the 0606CF, which in my opinion has a much stronger custom feel than the 0392. Does anyone know how soon the 0606CF will come out?!

After market titanium anodized hardware from outfits other than Hinderer are also pricey. There's a reputable outfit where a full set of titanium anodized hardware for say ZT 0801 comes to $107!

ZT 0606CF Factory Custom Limited Edition was announced at the 2015 Blade Show for a 2016 delivery. So, I assume we're not that far off...

People may not like what I am about to say, but I just dont understand all the buzz of ti hardware. I traded my Spyderco tenacious and endura for a full set of zt0562 blue ti hardware. Do they look pretty on the knife? Sure thry do. But they got scratched and marred easily from installation because they are soft. Are they stronger than steel hardware? I doubt so. Can they reduce the overall weight of the knife? Maybe a tiny bit.

What am I missing?

The smart thing to do would be to buy a 0392 and cannibalize all the hardware onto a stock Eklipse, then sell the 0392 at a discount - if anyone cared that much about the hardware.

Quick help fellas. I got a decent deal on the table for a brand new one of these. I have the regular non DLC 0392WC....and Love it. I'm just not sure if it's worth the 350? If I didn't have the other, I would do it......but Just some color changes and a dlc coated blade? Not sure if I should do it. Price is fair but.....i cant decide. Opinions???

Composition-wise, they are super close. In terms of the process of making it there may be some difference but if there is I can't tell (as just an average knife guy). 204 is U.S. made, 390 is European.

Yeah....heard It's almost identical. Anyone have a suggestion? I see them every so often for 400-450. I'm debating it....I LOVE the 0392WC.....I Have the regular LE model, can't decide if it's worth it...

I think I'm going to pass.... as much as I like it, I stopped buying DLC coated blades. It really is beautiful and l like the anodizing of the titanium but.....I can't decide.

Just buy it. :)
Life is short...fill it with knives.

Yeah.....but for the price, I can get the Karambit I've had my eye on forever. I just don't know how well the DLC holds up....will it just stay in my display case? I'm a huge Wharnnie fan, but I do have one. Part of me says to buy the blue Bowie instead. It has grown on me, but don't see many around.

DLC holds up pretty well.
I have a few scratches from concrete debris on my ZT 0392PURBLKWC, but that's about it. Pretty small scratches at that.

My ZT 0804CF has wear that you can see in person (but not in pictures so much), but it has not worn through.
It has been used a bunch on wood and cardboard, and is holding up just fine.
If I manage to wear through it with use, I will consider that an accomplishment. :D

I've been a ZT fan for a long time, they were my favourite knife company... But, I'm completely over the 0392 and frankly anything ZT has put out at least the past 2 years. I'm over ZT until they actually start making practical knives and hard use knives(production not limited edition). I've owned ZT (0301, 0350TS x2,0566BW x2,0560BW x2, 0620, 0630) So a total of 9 ZT's... But, frankly ZT hasn't put out anything the past 2 years or maybe more that I'm interested in at all. Frankly, I'm over ZT in general.

Well....I Got him to drop the price a bit so I snagged it. I really do like my 0392WC.....all the reviews show the action to be perfect, and the color combo is killer. Thx fellas!

Well, the 0392 and 0804CF have proven to be practical, as I found by using them.
I have even "hard used" them too.

From woods fun to fixing the kitchen counter, to carving handles for the bullet-resistant shield I built, never have they not been up to the task.

If you don't like the looks of the models released in the last two years, that's a valid opinion (I say you're wrong though ;) ).
But to say they aren't practical or ready for "hard use" is just flat-out, factually incorrect.

Here it is "hard-using" a small tree out of my way:
