Seems like it's not existent any more. This is how I received my new ZT 0801 a few days ago. I'm not an advocate of the "spine whack" test. However, as you can see a light push with my index finger causes the lock to fail. I also found that the standoffs were machined crooked (or bent?). This is not the quality I have come to expect from ZT. I am disappointed to say the least. I have sent an email to ZT requesting replacement standoffs but, haven't gotten a reply yet. Hopefully it's just the standoffs that are wrong with this knife.

Here are the updates I posted. Figured I would put them all here to aid those who don't want to read the whole thread (don't blame you)...

Just an update...

Emailed ZT for replacement standoffs and some screws to go with them.... I got a reply a few days later stating " I will be happy to send the parts you need free of charge." A few days ago I got the "replacement parts"...They only sent the screws! Their website doesn't state that they send stand-offs but, they either didn't read my email request or did and didn't bother to tell me they wouldn't be able to send the standoffs and I would need to return the knife for warranty repair.

I really don't want to bother trying to send it in for warranty repairs and waiting weeks on end so I have sent an email to the seller asking for an exchange. I'm fairly confident they will take care of me quickly but, I have never had to deal with them on anything like this.

Another update....
The dealer informed me that ZT doesn't allow exchanges and offered to send me his personal knife, but I didn't want to put him out so I bit the bullet and sent the knife in. I mailed the package Feburary 19th and just got it back today. Not the quickest turn around but, not the best either. Definitely acceptable but, what isn't acceptable is this....

I'm sure a quick tightening of the pivot would take care of it (I'm at work now and don't have my torx), but seriously who lets a knife leave from the factory like this? Did they even look at the knife!? I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and say that it rattled loose during shipping, but given that it came in a padded envelope and in bubble wrap, I think it would be a stretch.

They'll make it right but didnt you know? As mandated by their fanboys, youre not aloud to make threads about CS and QC until after it is resolved. Doesnt matter that this is General and not the ZT subforum. Oh.... Be ready. Mr potatohead in 3 2 1.

Try opening the knife the whole way instead of just barley cracking it open. Pretty much every knife will do that because you aren't letting it lock up fully.

If you aren't happy, send it back to zt and have them look at it. I imagine if you used a better flipping technique though, the problem would resolve itself.

I would ask the dealer to replace the whole knife, unless you bought it used from an individual.

If he's gonna make a thread, he at least needs to show a video of him opening it fully.

Operator error.

Seriously?

If watch the video you can see me pushing on the back of the flipper so the knife is opened fully. Doesn't matter how hard I flip it open it still has the same problem. Pretty much every knife will do this? None of my other frame or liner locks have this problem. All of them can be opened softly and still lock up nearly the same amount. I have been in contact with ZT and am awaiting a reply and I'm sure they will make it right but, it's the fact that I even have to deal with this that bothers me.

Wow. For a $190 knife that's scary.

What's really scary is my gf used it to cut some cardboard yesterday with it while I was at work. She pretty much despises my knives because I spend too much money on them, so I didn't think she would care about my knife problems.

That's it...she broke it! :D
Now she owes you a new, more expensive knife. ;)

Imo the rabid fanboys are best put on the ignore list. That way you don't have to read the inane posts defending a brand and attacking an individual who decides to go against the grain.

OP. Send it in or return it to the seller. I got bit hard by doing the same thing a while back. Required a fair amount of stitches.

Any production company will let one slip through the cracks on occasion. ZT's no exception (and no, it's not fair to reduce this to user error...This is a mechanical fault.) Send it back and get a replacement. You might want to skip the wait time and just send it back to the dealership for a trade...have them deal with CS.

ZT will make it right for ya.

Was the knife purchased brand new, as in from a retailer?

Just curious as all my ZT's have been flawless (12 in total), both ones purchased NIB by myself as well as those from the secondhand market...

Edited to add - Stabman's right your GF probably broke it so she's on the hook for a new, pricier replacement.:D

What ZT subforum?

Hey, that lock bar isn't fully engaging. Poor fit or break in period? Discuss amongst yourselves.

Poor fit. Break in period is just a term used by fanboys.

Not trying to defend this knife in particular, but I have had knives that changed drastically during a "break in period." Not something with this kind of problem though!

Fanboys is a term used by haterz.
Haterz is a term used by malcontents.
Malcontents is a term used by grumpus's.
Grumpus's is a term used by people with too much time on their hands.
People who have too much time on their hands go on the internet. :p

This recent snow is keeping me off the roof!! That explains a lot....
