ZT question...

If I didn't already know better, I would have guessed that the new 804 was a Sinkevich design, and the 456 was a Rexford. The 456 feels (and looks, and functions) like a beefy 808, and the 804 a mid-line between the 450 and 452. Was just examining multiple models the other day deciding what to carry next, and these thoughts just came to mind.

Yeah, I know, kind of random. But seemed to blend with this discussion. Deep thoughts, by Bflying. [emoji2]

So my 0804 came in the mail today. The blade is not centered. Anyone else not really keen on having to align the blade yourself right out of the box after spending $280 ?

Do I send it back ? Its so out of alignment that it is rubbing the blade on one side. Everything else about the knife is amazing once you get past that one huge problem.

Same here...
Just got a new 0566 with an off-centered blade.
Was able to correct with some "Hinderer" adjustment on Youtube.
It worked but still...

So I've been thinking about this, and frankly I'm really disappointed. I'm going to send this knife to ZT, and ask them to send me a totally different knife. I dont want a fixed one; I want one that came off the line the way it was supposed to be.

280 dollar knife should not have a misaligned blade. I've got smoke coming out of my ears on this one after haven given it some more thought. Really disappointed.

Does anyone think ZT is going to give me any trouble over this ? If so I may go full youtube bad review on this mutha.

If it's brand new from a ZT dealer contact that dealer for a replacement and they should provide you with a return shipping label.

If not from a ZT dealer send it to ZT to be fixed.

Yup!!!
If you send it to ZT they'll most likely fix it.
If you bought it from a good dealer, hopefully one of ours here, they'll most likely give you an exchange. I don't think I would settle for that one either.
Good luck!

Out of the 16 or so ZT's that I've purchased, I've never encountered an off center blade. But did have one (my very first) that had a very uneven edge grind. It didn't discourage me though, because it gave me a chance to practice reprofiling a recurve and polish out. Was a little nervous because it was the most expensive knife at that time that I had worked on. Proud to say it came out beautiful....and without damaging the tiger stripe.

The other was a 561 that had almost no detent. Would fall open with very little movement, or in pocket when not wanted. I sent it in for repair and it was returned untouched two weeks later with no explanation. I was a little biffed, but managed to correct the issue myself with perfect result.

But overall I'm still a raving fan because the fit and finish is still wayyyyyy above average of any brand of which I have multiples (of equivalent price and material range). Not to mention some pretty amazing designs and actions. [emoji41]. Every manufacturer lets an odd one slip QC.

But I totally understand the disappointment (anger?) if a bug comes with a first or second of a particular brand....or when dollars spent are stretched from average. The real question is, can (or will) it be resolved? Off centered blades are really a minor defect, and usually the easiest to resolve.

Hope everything works out for the best.

agree with RamZar and palonj. Since it is brand new from a dealer, why dont just ask for a replacement? I could be wrong, but if it goes to ZT warranty, most likely they will fix rather than replace it.

This seems like a problem... i can push the lock on my 804 all the way over with little effort... the lock definitely seems too weak or too thin... also it scratches the blade when it is closed and wiggling back and forth with the hardened steel on the side...

ok I would suggest you to tighten the pivot screw for two purposes: reducing the lockbar overtravaling to the other side and correcting the off centering. When doing so, pushing the blade to the side that it is off centering away. Might want to as well loosening all handle screw first.

Yup. This reminded me that I didn't even ask if there was ANY blade wiggle open or closed. If so, it's probably just a simple pivot screw adjustment. Which I don't even consider a defect as I usually end up tweaking mine to my own liking anyway. Although my last number of ZT's have come perfect with no adjustment necessary. Including my 804CF. My 804 came centered, rock solid with no blade movement, and fires smooth as glass. Also cannot push the lock past 50% if I try.
