So like it says, I've been thinking of losing the thumb stud and grinding out a wave opener on my 0300. What are your thoughts?

No speedsafe on the 0301 = no detent. Probably a toss up on which is more dangerous.

Try it out on a Cryo, see how you like it with the speedsafe. If it works then do it on the ZT.

Ew...no. What would compel you to do that? It's an assisted opener that has a flipper and thumb studs. The deployment is fine.

Yep, not good on a model that uses the studs as the blade stop. Plus an assisted flipper wouldn't be my first choice to wave.

I actually like the Wave idea. Even added it to a SOG that I was given last year. But I think you're asking for trouble since the 300 uses the studs as a stop for the blade, as mentioned by others. But, if you want to try it, by all means go ahead. It is your knife

How much weight did you save with the mod (not that I'm a wave devotee)? It looks kinda sweet!

I bet the wave with the added insurance of speed safe, gets it opens every time. This would have come with a wave if not for patents. Its not so much a mod as it is a great knife living up to its potential.

This would not have come with a wave. If they wanted it they could have licsensed out to get one as spyderco does on 2 models. Ken Onion and Strider collabed to make it the way it is for a reason.

As others have said thumbstuds are actually thumbstops so if you do wave, make sure you leave them on as a few others above have shown. While not my taste for the current ZT knives, I wish you luck on the endeavor and expect a pic in the mod thread when done!
