I am just curious how many people actually bought one of these in the interest of using or possibly for collection? The other question I have is the large number of people who bought them all up from under people who wanted them to use, just to flip them for double price the day the come in the mail? I can not see how knife collectors, users, and just plain knife fanatics can just suck up the supply to screw over all of their fellow members on here. I was always happy with how everyone on here would help each other out when needed. Lately, it seems to be the opposite. I have bought and sold my share of knives as well, but not with the sole idea of making money or a huge profit. I tend to impulse buy and if I do not like the knife I either resell for what I paid or (normally) at a small loss. This one is just one more in a long line of this new trend. Is this just a sad sign of the state of things to me or does this bother others as well? Just my 2 cents. Let me know what you think.

So long as people are willing to be screwed, they will be. It's that simple. I wish people wouldn't do that to each other, but it's not realistic to believe that it will change. Whenever LE releases hit, there will be this mad scramble and gouging.

The only way to avoid this trend is for the makers to refrain from releasing small lots of custom designs period.

Took the words right out of my mouth! Honestly looking at the for sale thread I thought some of the prices were reasonable compared to what we saw when they first hit the streets. I sold mine off immediately. Not because I wanted a big profit (which I did not take), but because it just was not the knife I wanted. It was awesome in many many ways but I knew I would not carry it or use it. I am not one to just keep a knife in the safe. I sold it to an LEO who really wanted one and I knew he would keep it!

Never sold a knife, ive gave away a bunch of them though. I get as much satisfaction gifting knives to people who really appreciate it as I would profiting any time.

I don't really think the flippers stole the knives from under the "people where we're going to use them", simply because I highly doubt any of those people exist.....

The VAST majority of people who got in on the 392 release were either people looking to make a profit (the flippers you refer to), or long term collectors that will keep them in their safes forever, and even these are probably only doing it so that they can sell them at a later date when their value has gone up even more.

Either way, I don't think we'll see too many of them in anything but glam shots here on BF for a while

The way I see it, the flippers and long term collectors buy them first, and then the knives SLOWLY and gradually make their way into the hands of actual users over time as they're sold again and again on the secondary market. And that's only the very few peices that manage to make it past all of the people who just want to keep them under glass with the rest of their ZT LE knives.

I'm pretty weary of the whole limited edition ZT thing. They always seem to make them the designs that are the best suited for actual use, and then make them limited productions which means they all end up in safes or in postal limbo as people pay ever-increasing prices for them.

I have no interest in the 0392, so I didn't even try to get in on it (too expensive, not my style of blade, etc), but the 0777? I want that. The 0888? I want that too. Too bad I don't have $1.5k in fun money kicking around, or the ability to carry a $1.5k object around with me without being a nervous wreck...

There's a few that are probably getting used. If I scored one best believe it would have been used! Folks are gonna do what they're gonna do though.

I think you are wrong there are a lot more people using the 0392 than just about any LE ive seen. It is such a great user that once someone gets one in hand they understand this one wants to be used.

"Screwed" is a state of mind. No one buying a knife on the secondary market is getting screwed, because every single one of them wants to do it. And when someone wants to do something, it can hardly be said that they are screwed. A person is screwed only when he wants to do something and cannot, or is forced to do something he would like to avoid. Secondary buyers don't fall into either category because they are acting in concert with their desires.

I have no problem whatsoever when someone makes money by flipping a knife. That is exactly what vendors are doing too - buying from a 3rd party, raising the price, and selling it. Everyone is free to 1) pay close attention and buy limited edition knives while they are still available, 2) buy to flip, 3) buy from a flipper or 4) none of the foregoing. Laissez faire baby!

Fair enough. I guess I wasn't really speaking for the 0392 specifically, but more for ZT LEs in general.

If what you're saying is true, then I'm glad to see it!

I will be the first to admit I have about every ZT ever made and most never see any pocket time but something about the 0392 is different, whether its because we know there are more coming out as factory customs or just the design or what it is I cant define it but it really is a knife that wants to be carried. Most people ive seen commenting on forums seem to see it the same way its a user.

New trend?? lol What rock you been hiding under? Virtually every ZT LE release has turned into a long whiny/moany bitchfest thread about the "evil" flippers and the "evils of capitalism".

I used to wonder why ZT left BF's..threads like this one remind me why.

The 0777 and 0888 are very nice looking. I would grab either one if $ were not an issue. They are very unique looking. I would definitely use any one of the three (0392 included) if I would have one.

The only knives I have sitting in a safe are particular knives that have passed through here and one of my kids said they would like it. They are too young for them now, but I have them for them for later.

If anything we should be thankful that ZT does not increase the prices to meet demand. I'd be willing to bet they could have easily sold them all at $500+ and probably only taken a few more minutes.

Some people can take criticism and use it constructively, some can take critcism and try to change the critics' minds, and some just can t take criticism.

I agree with powernoodle. Laissez faire.

This is not unique to the knife world. People buy all kinds of rare or unique items to flip for a profit.

Nothing new here..........

I know it not really a new trend, but it was done so quickly. I guess to me it just seems like it was not like they were in the market for any amount of time. They were bought up and flipped in days. That was what surprised me the most.

It just seemed crappy, since the members are all "friends" and most are not in it for the quick profit, but to enjoy the knives.

How about the people who stand in line at Best Buy for 12hrs to buy the new gaming system at midnight and then it's on Ebay for double the price within 3 minutes of them getting home. Is that fast enough for you?

I would argue that, while similar, that is fundamentally different in that those consoles will continue to be produced and you can just wait and get one later, for less, and after all of the bugs and hardware issues have been worked out.

When an LE is sold out, it's sold out.
