ZT0392. Bought to use or to make a profit? Check the For Sale section, it's sad.

How about the people who stand in line at Best Buy for 12hrs to buy the new gaming system at midnight and then it's on Ebay for double the price within 3 minutes of them getting home. Is that fast enough for you?

They are doing the same thing, so it would fall into the same category. That's not really a new point, just restating the same thing I said, but I still understand what you mean.

I have nothing but disdain for people who buy knives just to flip them. I often want a knife but can't surf the net all day. People buy them before I even see them for sale.

The REAL losers are those suckers who pay $600 for an 0392 when they could get a genuine Hinderer Eklipse for $700!
(And the Eklipse are available everywhere)

That's just how it is, we don't have to like it but it's not gonna change.

We see ZT trying different things to get these knives to as many end users as possible. They seem to be trying at least.

New trend?? lol What rock you been hiding under? Virtually every ZT LE release has turned into a long whiny/moany bitchfest thread about the "evil" flippers and the "evils of capitalism".

I used to wonder why ZT left BF's..threads like this one remind me why.

No, ZT left because they couldn't handle the truth about problems with certain runs of their knives. Other makers weather the storms and continue to sell knives in spite of forum groupthink. ZT could have done the same. Instead, they took their ball and went home.

Btw, my Kershaw Ruby is still one of the best knives EVER! Thank goodness their server screwed up or I never would have gotten one of those either.

As for the ZT limited runs, I'm tired of the whole thing. They're running out of ideas anyway.

Provided you do not use it to injure yourself or others, there is no wrong reason to buy a knife. If you buy it to use it, you've done the right thing. If you buy it to collect it, you've done the right thing. If you buy it to sell it for a profit, you've done the right thing. If you buy it to give it away, you've done the right thing. In the final analysis, why you buy knives is nobody's business but yours.

Well, I got one and guess what...IF I didn't like it I would have sold it for guess what... WHATEVER people were willing to pay for them.
Obviously I would not sell one for a loss.
Why is this so hard to understand.

I think the balance between the users, collectors and flippers is about even. I have read some posts that folks are using them for their intended use. Who knows about the collectors. I think it's pretty obvious who the flippers were. It was flabbergasting when they went up on the secondary market so fast. The stupidly high prices that they were bringing can be controlled, but will never come to pass. It would take discipline for every BF community member to refuse to pay those gouging prices. We all know that will never happen.

They're running out of ideas anyway.

Would you care to expand on this a little? I am just curious what makes you say this.

Personally, I think they have some nice stuff coming out and no one really knows what's in the development pipeline.

The Supreme Allied Commander surveys this thread and see much butthurt in this thread (and not about people flipping knives for profit).

But seriously folks, it's a fricking knife. The sun will come up tomorrow regardless of if you get one. If you miss out on it, who cares. There will always be more knives out there to spend knives on than you could possibly hope to buy. If you get one, kudos. If you don't and aren't willing to pay the secondary price, move on.

Would I love to own a Rexford custom one day? Sure. Am I willing to shell out $3,000+ for one? Hell no.

If I never score one for their 800-1200ish table price, will it make a lick of difference in my life? No. Am I going to beat myself up about it or cry about it on the internet? Nope.

I have no interest in the 0392, so I didn't even try to get in on it (too expensive, not my style of blade, etc), but the 0777? I want that. The 0888? I want that too. Too bad I don't have $1.5k in fun money kicking around, or the ability to carry a $1.5k object around with me without being a nervous wreck...
- I carry a ZT0777-M390 around quite a bit and use it to cut anything that needs cutting. I'm not nervous at all about carrying it and using it.

Fair enough. I guess I wasn't really speaking for the 0392 specifically, but more for ZT LEs in general.
- There are a lot of other companies who sell custom or limited edition knives via lottery that are sold for multiple times what the person bought it for (Hinderer, Emerson, etc.). It's not unique to ZT, but it seems to gain more attention since ZT's are generally easier to obtain than a custom.

I would argue that, while similar, that is fundamentally different in that those consoles will continue to be produced and you can just wait and get one later, for less, and after all of the bugs and hardware issues have been worked out.

When an LE is sold out, it's sold out.
- Except in the case of a limited edition run of the console. ;)

I am just curious how many people actually bought one of these in the interest of using or possibly for collection? The other question I have is the large number of people who bought them all up from under people who wanted them to use, just to flip them for double price the day the come in the mail? I can not see how knife collectors, users, and just plain knife fanatics can just suck up the supply to screw over all of their fellow members on here. I was always happy with how everyone on here would help each other out when needed. Lately, it seems to be the opposite. I have bought and sold my share of knives as well, but not with the sole idea of making money or a huge profit. I tend to impulse buy and if I do not like the knife I either resell for what I paid or (normally) at a small loss. This one is just one more in a long line of this new trend. Is this just a sad sign of the state of things to me or does this bother others as well? Just my 2 cents. Let me know what you think.

+1... It's sad...

Well, would it have been better if only a few LEs were being sold at a time over a longer period of time by the same few people who happened to acquire multiple copies?

I don't understand the craze for ZT limited editions at all. These are production knives with units in the several hundreds. It seems to me that pure hype has a lot to do with the price, as there are certainly better knives that can be had for the secondary market price of the 0392 which seems to be currently around $550-600. Not to mention the 0777s and 0888s which to this day are still listed at ridiculous prices. When a production knife has a secondary market price exceeding that of the secondary market price of many handmade customs, you know the price no longer has to do with the knife itself. For the price of an 0888, I could buy a Terzuola or a Harkins and have a couple hundred left over.

If you've seen reviews for the 777 and 888 then you should know that the quality is there. ZT can do stuff that even customs can't. Definitely very high quality production

this whole post just made me laugh out loud. They left because of all the bitching and moaning, and their new sub forum is amazing to say the least. Running out of ideas? You must be living under a rock. Not only did they announced most of the new knives early this year.... almost all of them have been released!!! They must have some fresh ideas if they are working with new makers and releasing knives way earlier than they were before.

as for the original question in the thread. I bought my 0392 to keep, and it was in my pocket all day today :)

But seriously folks, it's a fricking knife. The sun will come up tomorrow regardless of if you get one.

Tomorrow never came for me though! I lived that day over and over again Groundhog Day style and every time GPKNIVES kept breaking aghhhhh!

But seriously, it is just a knife. I'm quite happy with the knives I currently own. It would have been nice to get one, but the current pricing of these is too much for me. Any knife for that matter.

"Screwed" is a state of mind. No one buying a knife on the secondary market is getting screwed, because every single one of them wants to do it. And when someone wants to do something, it can hardly be said that they are screwed. A person is screwed only when he wants to do something and cannot, or is forced to do something he would like to avoid. Secondary buyers don't fall into either category because they are acting in concert with their desires.

I have no problem whatsoever when someone makes money by flipping a knife. That is exactly what vendors are doing too - buying from a 3rd party, raising the price, and selling it. Everyone is free to 1) pay close attention and buy limited edition knives while they are still available, 2) buy to flip, 3) buy from a flipper or 4) none of the foregoing. Laissez faire baby!

This is not unique to the knife world. People buy all kinds of rare or unique items to flip for a profit.

Nothing new here..........

What powernoodle and poolhustler said. :)

For the complainers: Would you rather have the government regulate (and subsidize) knife prices? I'm sure the prices will go down and the quality will go up when Obama gets involved.

Hahaha hahaha hahaha haha hahaha hahaha hahah. That's rich.

Please please please please please show me where I can buy a Terzuola for a couple hundred less than current 0888 pricing....

I agree that it's sad. I also have a little disdain for flippers who jack-up prices (in this so called "great community"). But equally for the buyers as well.

But I also agree that Laissez-faire is the only way to go. I love freedom, am a advocate of Anarcho-capitalism (and often have to laugh at "I only buy American-made"-wannabe-communists).

But, that doesn't mean I have to like ZT or respect their production policies.

As one of the very few knife nuts who carries strictly tip-down I already started disliking ZT the last two years because they issued so many models without a four-way swappable pocket-clip, like they used to do. They even issued a freaking Hinderer model (the 0562) that comes strictly tip-up, while any RHK is always delivered tip-down to your door. So of course I contacted ZT upfront about the 0392, despite a more than one finger grooved handle never really is that comfortable for some one with Xtra Small hands like me. But unfortunately ZT replied that they didn't ship LE models international lol. Mind you, they ship everything international, but just not the LE models.

So liking ZT or respecting their LE policies? Nope. It's sad.

And annoying. But I got used to that lol (being an European knife nut who carries tip-down).

Yeah honestly it's really annoying that they do this
