Zt0392wc

It's a stretch to call that blade a Wharncliffe style. More like a broke back seax.

I would have described the blade on the 0392wc as a Wharncliffe, and the Yojimbo 2 as well. In fact, I consider them great examples of an updated, but typical Wharncliffe profile. What does a 'true' Wharncliffe look like? Pics would be helpful (no sarcasm involved, I'm just interested in your definition).

That is absolutely a Wharncliffe blade, i would hardly confuse it anything else. It's pretty far from being a sheepsfoot.

I'd call this a true wharncliffe:

I snapped a few pics of a couple of their prototype ZTs, they had. I'll put em up when I get home tomorrow. Pretty wild stuff. Blade was AWESOME.

Yep. It sure is. I don't know if it's any 'truer' than the Hinderer-style wharncliffe, though. The most important feature of a wharncliffe looks to be the straight edge; a long, razor-like cutting-edge without any kind of belly, culminating in a fine point that angles back toward the handle. The spine can either angle directly back -- in a straight line or more commonly curved (like the Brous SS) -- or use two (or more) angles (like the 0392WC), giving it the 'broken back', 'reverse-tanto' look. From what I could tell, the 'broken back seax' is similar to the wharncliffe, but often has a gentle curve to the blade, and sometimes a bowie like curve between the 'broke back' and the point.

These are all examples of true wharncliffe blades:

Just for the hell of it, I looked it up... this, apparently, is a 'broken back seax':

It could be called a wharncliffe, or vice versa, I suppose. It's a very old British design. After seeing a few examples, I get why someone would say the 0392WC is similar, but it's still very much a wharncliffe, IMO.

Two tone with the original blade shape would have been a winner. That "Wharncliffe" is too extreme for my liking.

I love the harpoon blade shape of the original, I'd like to see more knives with that style of blade

Good Lord that tip is pointy! I would probably drop it and break the tip off:eek:

I like the filler tab, it appears to be made of copper. It doesn't fit the overall design, but it's still cool. It would flow better with copper colored hardware imo. It's weird they chose only 1 spot to be made with copper.

I felt the same when I saw this one, for me it doesn't look like something I would carry, that tip is over the top,. I think they should have left a little more spine on the blade and maybe got a little less carried away with the swedge. I don't love the DLC on the blade, overall it just seems a little wrong but I am still a fan of the original.
