ZT0561 Mudbucket!!!!!

Next up: strawberry moonshine dunking.
Because that could really happen.

Sorry, I really hate these abuse threads with knives, guns, or any nice equipment. Whatever floats your boat though.

I got the popcorn coming... ready for the 10lb sledge hammer whack test...

Awesome! I asked how it would hold up to grit and grime in another place. Never got an answer.
Pretty sure that this is the only answer I need.

Thanks for having the brass to do it. :)

How is this abuse? Ever drop a knife in the muck? Lighten up.

Definitely not abuse. I've been wondering how well my 560 will hold up with dirt and mud in it also. I use my knives extensively in the garden and hunting or fishing. So they see a fair amount of dirt, grit, blood and guts. Since Moose did this test(thanks btw) there are no worries. Now, off to the garden I go!

Great test and video Moose. It's great to know that the 0560/0561 will take anything you throw at it in possible real world situations.

i dug a hole for a plant in my lawn with my 560 is that abuse? ...none of that p regrown sod crap eather i gently batond some kindling too

Am I the only one that is not surprised with the out come of the test? I expect no complications with any quality manual opening knife when subjected to such an environment. While I applaud Moose for his time and effort, for me it wasn't necessary.

I know the bearing system was the questionable component and I believe it would eventually exhibit gritty operation if continuously used in muddy/sandy conditions. Having said that I wouldn't hesitate to use this knife in any greasy, muddy, bloody or sandy environments because it was designed and built with hard use in mind.

Obviously there are people who wouldn't subject a knife with the price tag of the 056XX to anything more than light use, I am not one of them.

Agreed. I have no qualms about using a knife at that price point, and not exactly with light use. I would carry a 056X any day at the job site, and short of cutting shingles, I would use it on the roof with no hesitation. I'm not too fond of Hinderer designs myself, but the KVT and ELMAX certainly have grabbed my attention. Maybe I will pick one up when they are more readily available.

You be correct. Not everyone will keep their knife in a safe, and sometimes accidents happen. In this case, mudbucket did not stand a chance against the ZT. :D

I was pretty sure they knife would work fine, but KVT is something pretty new under the sun. I was curious.

Its nice to know the limitations of your knife, I was so skeptical of the Hogue EX01 system, I done the same thing to it. I've had some knives with me in the river, swimming, laying in the rapids, jumping off rocks, etc. clipped in my trunks with a lanyard on them, lock up with the fine "sand" that gets in the innards.

And I just wanted to. :D

I agree that this is a very real world test, but I will still try not to do it intentionally. It is good to know that if this happens to me accidentally though the knife will be fine. As if I needed a confidence boost for this knife's quality, but still.

Awesome test Moose. Not abuse either. You had a question and you tested it within the confines of your needs. Awesome work. Good to know your tools before the critical moment comes when they close on your hand.
