ZT0630 Next ZT Emerson Collaboration

Yeah, I'm not fond of the grooves on this 0630. Makes me think of the Boker subcom's whenever I see groove cuts like that:p.

Im so glad I saw this thread before i ordered a 0620 i like this blade shape much more than that tanto.

I like it I'll have one when they come out, it would be cool to see zt and emerson make a mini version of this.

It will be mine...ohhh yes...it will be mine. ( ok, maybe that was a little creepy :D)

I got to handle one of these, and the handles were very nice.

The pivot was so smooth and the blade so heavy it opened almost as smoothly as the KVT ball bearing knives.

^^Just out of curiosity, how was the detent strength? Both of my 0620's are strong enough that I don't bother using the thumbdisc(ouch!) and only open using the Wave.

- How would you compare the G10 to Emerson's G10? I have a ZT0620CF and I'm still debating if I like the CF texture or not.

I don't have the 0630 yet, but have the 0620 in both cf/M390 and G10/elmax. ZTs G10 is much less aggressive than most of my Emersons. Not polished smooth like the CF, so better grip, but not as non-slip as the Emerson G10. They are all good, but I think the ZT CF is a bit too smooth and the grooves not deep enough for a really non-slip grip.

That's too bad. I really like the aggressive G10 that Emerson uses. I love everything else about my ZT0620.

Do you own any of the Kershaw collaborations? I have the CQC-3K. Is the G10 similar to that?

Yeah, the G10's level of grip is similar to the Kershaw's. Not aggressive at all compared to a recent Emerson.

- Thanks for the input. My original plan was to trade my CF scale for someone's G10 scale, but I'll have to rethink that.

I have a 0620 as well and a 0630 on the way. Maybe it's the way you're trying to open it using the thumb disk. If you're right handed, you are probably pressing on the lock bar too much with your middle finger. Try pulling the lock bar down with your middle finger and pushing up on the thumb disk with your thumb at the same time. If you try opening it with your left hand, you'll notice it's easier.

Nope, owned many framelocks over the the past 15 years ranging from $100.00 to $1000.00. Righthanded and it's not the way I hold it as I do not touch the lockbar with my middle and ringfinger hooked to the pocketclip for grip. The detent was actually VERY weak on my 0620CF compared to my 0620 which couldn't be opended with the thumbdisc (valid warranty but didn't send in). I ended up swapping framelocks between the 2 and they evened out to almost the same. I would only want a detent this strong for flipper knives, not other styles. I'm really hoping that ZT is more consistent now. I'll know when my 0630 arrives, hopefully later this week.

I understand what you're saying now. My bad. I have 2 framelocks with super strong detents and for the life of me, I can't open them using the thumbstuds.

Just received my 0630. I like the G10 on this better than the slick CF on the 620cf, but both have that Emerson ergonomic fit. I found the detent to be strong but the thumbdisc works fine for me as long as I have the angle/motion right. Both also wrist-"flip" open well too (wave also works fine). It was love at first sight when I saw the 0630, bc I really like the Horseman general blade shape. I have also found the tanto tip very handy on the 620, so I am very happy with both knives. Great designs, great execution. I don't have the budget for knife purchases these days, and I ordered the 630 thinking they would take a ZT-while to show up, but here it is and no regrets :)

Those grooves are indeed lame. They should have just gone with a 3d texture like the old 030X/0200 or 056X. Or stick with a flat scale.
