Just an FYI some online retailers now have the ZT0777-m390 listed with a stock photo...and honestly the knife still looks nice but nothing near the composite blade. :(

Since the photo is in the public domain:

- Now that I see the pure M390 blade, I feel the same way. I didn't realize how much the damascus added to the overall look of the knife.

Now the OP should be extremely happy for getting the original ZT0777.

+1

Fortunately we only waited 2 years for this. Don't know if I still want it.
I would still want one but only if I found it for fairly cheap. I'd rather just wait for the 0454 now. I imagine this is going to kill a lot of the craze for the 777...

Anyone else agree that without the Damascus the knife is lacking a lot of the wow factor?

We're all easily seduced by blades. Aesthetics then pushes us over the edge.

The 0777-M390 is as imminently worthy of a great knife as the 0777-DAM. Perhaps even more so due to the M390 steel!

Of course, there goes the aesthetics which is also huge!

Don't forget the affordability index!

It makes the 0770CF a big winner in my mind...

- The ZT0777 was all about aesthetics and cutting edge technology. To me, it was always a ZT version of a gentleman's knife. While a pure M390 blade is no doubt better than a damascus/Vanax75 when it comes to hard use, I don't think most people were planning on abusing their ZT0777. I know that I have much more affordable knives for those uses.

It's the same reason that I just bought a Shun Taiyo. While the SG2 blade is very nice, there are cheaper knives with the same steel. There aren't any with the design and sunrise cladding of the Taiyo.

after looking i actually see a few places saying $360. One site even says they received word from ZT that the original 777 was discontinued and that they were not given a time frame for when to expect the M390

A showcase if you must. Absolutely! Aesthetics being the overwhelming factor in hindsight. The key is in manufacturing efficiencies resulting in profits.

At its size I wouldn't exactly call the 0777-xxx a Gentleman's folder. For that the ZT 0770CF fits the bill very nicely and elegantly.

No doubt. It's the same infatuation I have for the new (Blade Show 2013) Hoshi from Shun with that amazing Copper/Stainless Steel blade (a protective layer prevents the copper from discoloration/patination)! I'm befuddled to explain myself! Sad, really...

I dont know I still like it...has its own appeal and now I wil have no reservations in usage. Seems like a winner to me still.

My thoughts exactly.

I find M390 kinda boring these days especially when it comes to the 0777. I don't want another M390 blade now.

BTW The 0777 now looks like its copies just with a ZT logo. Honestly when I consider the price (around 100$) and make it a hard user, I would be better off with buying one of those.
But I don't think I could bring myself to buy a knock-off.
