ZT's BlackWashing

Just looking at the Ti lock side I would say that good size flat stones were used. Any small or pointy media would have made that side look different. In the one video from Blade Jen said "we use synthetic stones" and "it took quite a bit of testing with different media to get the look we wanted". Or something along those lines. I'm about ready to try it with an old peanut butter jar and river rock in the drier with a bunch of towels.

You did a nice job. The ceramic media would work good though. you just need to time it right. Due to the ridges on the 0300 handle those higher points are constantly getting hit by the ceramic bits and therfore wear faster than the low spots. Those points on the ceramic media help get some of the stonewashing effect in the valleys. Obviously the longer you keep the piece in the tumbler the more finish you will remove. Im gonna hopefully pick up a tumbler in the next few weeks. I have the ceramic media Im just waiting for a good sale at harbor freight. Ill post my results with that stuff.

Here is a pic of my DLC 0200 blem, that I put the blade in my Lymon Turbo brass tumbler (vibrating as mentioned above).
I used crushed limestone gravel from my driveway, and water.
Left it in for 48 hrs!

Bigger stones should do the trick. Limestone is very soft, most likely softer than the DLC. Granite or quartz are going to be what you need. I put a few small pieces of limestone in with the 0300 and just turned into powder from the harder stones. Shards of hard tile should also work well.

Nice work on those scales.

According to Jen in Gavko's video interview from Blade, the blades of the knives are first DLC coated and then tumbled with synthetic rocks. she said it took awhile to get it right.
*I hadn't noticed the 2nd and 3rd pages existed when I posted this*

Anyone know what knives are going to be available in the black wash finish? A 0550 maybe?

Lol got a lotta laughs out of this thread this morning. Very entertaining. First time I cut a can with a black zt blade I thought I scratched the heck out of it, but it did indeed come off. I noticed the spyderco DLC on my para 2 doesn't seem as tough. End of the day though they are just tools for me. I definitely want the 560BW though. Beautiful knife.
