0560/61 Detent, Lock, Weight...

I like flippers and I'd like to get a 561 as I prefer the brown to black scales of the 560. When flipping a flipper it helps a lot to not pull the "trigger" back but to make the direction of thrust of the flip straight "into" the knive. Down into it not to the back. This is really hard to describe but is much more flippy.

I plan to get a 561 when I can find one and a cryo.

Please do not change the design to accommodate people that are unaware of how to use said tool.
If you have ideas on how to improve on an actual problem, great be looking forward to it (I'm not sure what more you could do?) I think you guys nailed it.

If someone believes that 2+2=7, we don't change math to accommodatete their incorrect assumptions.

As someone living north of your border I really, really appreciate the strong detent, due to the fact of legal issues (without a strong detent the knife could be considered a prohibited weapon - flick knife)

I hope the 0777 has a strong detent as well.
Thanks and good job!

I don't care if mine has problems across the board...I just wish my 0560 would finally get here.

Oh could someone use one already!!!:)

Thomas I notice that in this thread it's all take take take. People today...ammIright?? You had one simple request!! I will step up to the plate and honor your wishes good sir

Oh, just need you to send me one first iffin ya don't mind :p ;)

3 of my 5 have a weaker detent, but honestly all of them function perfectly. Strong vs weak, doesn't matter to me. I like the feel of all of them.

Kershaw/ZT did a remarkable job on this knife. Just from a production standpoint it is amazing that these knives are so consistent. I handled over 20 of these at my local dealer, and NONE of them had "problems." I was truly shocked. Compare that to other big brands where I handle 10+ of the same model.... I instantly know which ones I'm getting.

If Kershaw/ZT continues on this track I see them as being the yardstick that all other manufacturers are compared to. (this coming from a hardcore Spydie fan) Kershaw/ZT really has just stepped up the F&F game for the whole industry. Others should take note.

All I can say is, if you want a piece of jewelry buy a watch. If you want a tool, and a darn good one, buy a ZT. Kudos to ZT/KAI on a raising the bar yet another notch.

I hold the same opinion s well - mine felt dialed in from day one . . .

As far as the 0560 goes, I am very pleased with the way it turned out. The blade is centered and very sharp. The handle is extremely comfortable and feels well balanced. The blade to handle ratio is perfect. I have no problems opening the knife with either the thumb studs or the flipper. I do like the option. There will always be people that complain about anything and everything given the chance. The knife is already dialed in as far as I am concerned.

Thanks for the great post, Thomas. I had mentioned in the long thread that my lockbar was sticking, but after some pencil lead and a whole bunch of flipping, it seems to have broken in nicely. No more problems there at all. I still for the life of me can't get the blade to deploy with the thumb studs no matter which direction I press, but I think that's just because of the strong detent, and that's just fine with me. I'd prefer it with a stop pin instead just so it would be a bit cleaner looking, but for my first framelock and first flipper, I couldn't be happier.

The more I carry mine, and flip it, the more I like it. This knife is another winner and a fine addition to my ZT collection, which are all users, btw. It was definitely worth the wait.

It took five minutes with an UF nailboard to dehorn my 0561's jimping area - now it's perfect! In comparison to my user 0551, the 0561 is definitely sharper - at least as sharp as the still unused 'backup' 0551. The grinds are all even, too. My user 0551 will finally meet my Spydie Sharpmaker in a few minutes - that ElMax's sharpness has lasted a long time. Admittedly, no cb box reductions - I finally realized what a cheapo boxcutter was intended to do. Gasp, I still love my 0551... but that 0561 is catching up quickly.

Oh could someone use one already!!!:)

I would be happy to! Lots of cardboard, whittle some sticks, cut and strip some speaker wires, zip ties, carve and sculpt cured spray foam, fibreglass window screen, plant stems, dismember tiny rodents, assorted food prep. I'm sure I could find a million other things to use one on. Let me know when you wanna send me one and I'll pay the shipping! :D

Jokes aside. When I do get a 56x (wedding in January is top priority right now) it will be a well loved a constantly used knife.

Also. Am I the only one who wants a ZT box with Thomas' autograph on it?

I really am enjoying my new 560. Great knife. So light! I've been flipping like mad to break it in and it seems to be loosening up.

It does make a sort of odd squeaking noise upon closing though. I'm wondering if this is normal or if this is also something that is just part of the break-in process.

Great knife!

I for one love being able to use either the thumb studs or the flipper on my 0560...depends on the mood I guess as to which I'll use but both work perfectly on mine. ZT hit this one out of the park, I simply could not be more pleased than I am with this knife and that's after waiting 9-10 months for it to hit the online stores. It was well worth the wait! Great job guys!

Took it to the job site today, but too bad I didn't have too much to cut up- just some scrap paper bags used for some masking. All in all, it's breaking in nicely; getting smoother...also 50/50 on thumb-stud and flipper deployment. Like the ability to change it up...

Mine (#0447) works just fine with the detent feeling just right to work with (nicely balanced without the need for Neanderthal thumbs here). And by the way, anyone who feels the need to be using "thumb studs" on a flipper requires an obligatory kick in the nuts from the nearest knife nut free of charge.

Thanks Thomas and gang for producing not one but two very fine knives in this Hinderer series...

These punch well above their price point and Noob criticisms aside I think these will stand the test of time and be KAI classics. Keep up the sterling work lads!

Cheers from Ireland.

I am very impressed that Thomas is very proactive in addressing anything Kershaw/ZT, in a professional, even keeled manner.

I cannot wait to get back from my business trip to rip open the box and fondle my new 0560

I've read a lot of people having very strong detents on their 560/561. Mine is not strong at all. Actually I'm able to hold my knife (blade down, spine up), fling the knife downward and the blade will open the whole way. I don't have to touch the blade at all (no touching the flipper or stud). I don't mind it, but just seems quite different than what most people are describing.

And I've been using mine for a couple weeks now and love it. It opens easily, locks up very solid, weight is excellent, edge retention is great, I love the low riding clip, it fits in the pocket very nice, the G10 doesn't tear up my hands when reaching in my pocket for something else (thank you for the nice scale). Love it!

Oh could someone use one already!!!:)

Thanks again for the support and valued input with the ZT line-up.
mine will be here in about 5 hours im going to open the box outside and start carving tent stakes and other stuff the moment i get it. will post pics.

A ZT knife is a soldiers knife. for when your life depends on the knife , you against the worlds strife to the woodsmen life so get out and use that knife!

Great post Thomas! I have not said much on this but I applaud the detents of the Kai products. I've told customers for years that Kershaw/ZT are the only ones that work as they should! (detents) If everyone did it like Kershaw maybe you guys in New York would still be able to buy certain brands you can no longer purchase from the manufacturer?? Its pretty sad when a $7 china knife has a detent that works as it is supposed to work and the only USA made company that does them better than that is Kershaw and they get complaints about doing it correctly! You guys should be complaining on all the other forums about the ones that are not done correctly and do not work as they are supposed to work!

What was it Randy Couture said, 'okay ladies' you need to start working those fingers out! :D Or maybe you just need a real He Man folder to give you something to complain about and make you feel really good about your ZT sticky problem!?? ;) Just kidding. Seriously don't change a thing. You are doing everything right.
